We have decided to take the plunge but cant decide where to call home. We are considering Saratoga (we like the longer deed) , but prefer Beach Club and Wilderness. Also, we would spend Easter week each year in a studio. Are we nuts if we think that we have a shot at a Beach club, Wilderness or Boardwalk studio 7 months before Easter week? Will we be be stuck at our home resort unless we go during a non-peak time? Any experiences are greatly appreciated. Also, are those resorts so small (BC, Wilderness) that you have trouble getting what you want even at 11 months out? Happy Holidays and thanks.

You should not have any problems reserving a studio at BCV or VWL 11 months ahead using the Home resort priority, but may find challenges at 7 months. If you will not be disappointed staying at your home resort, then your plan would be fine. If you truly want to stay at BCV or VWL, I'd suggest having one of those as your Home Resort.

Good luck with your decision! :)

If you care where and when you stay, then buy where you love to stay.

You will be happier and your family will love you even more.

thanks for the advice. we may rethink whether the 12 extra years in our 70's is worth it.

I often wonder how long the "average" DVC member actually keeps the membership. I admit that when we bought, selling was the last thing on my mind. But I do think about it every so often now, especially as I see that my parents (barely in their 80's) and their siblings (still in their 70's) have pretty much stopped traveling more than a few miles from home.

I do know that I would rather be at the BWV than any other resort and so I do not mind paying the higher dues to reserve at 11 months. Somehow, I do not think it would help me much to know I got a "super deal" if I couldn't be at my favorite place. Sometimes, it's not all about the money!

Good luck with your decision.

P.S. Keep in mind that if you can't reserve more than 7 months in advance, your home resort will not matter. Also, you will be able to get into the smaller resorts some of the time, even during the Easter weeks; you just can't count on it and you may have to use the waitlist. There are (and will continue to be) many others who will be competing with you for space at 7 months. Sometimes you will be the lucky ones and sometimes they will be.

Great advice given already. I almost bought at 2 other resorts because of the "great deal" at the time. I am so much happier owning at the resort I truly love calling home than just buying somewhere that was less expensive.

I personally think you would have a tough time to get BCV at peak times @ 7 months. You may also want to consider resale values. Currently SSR is less than BCV so it would seem that BCV has a higher resale value if you ever needed to see it. The resale market is loaded with SSR contracts with many fewer BCV for sale..just food for thought.

You could consider 2 smaller contracts at BCV and VWL. Through banking/borrowing, you could alternate which you stay at and have the 11 month window at your favorite resorts.
