I decided to just print out the menus available at www.wdwig.com and ask my dh to choose- of course being the steak fan he is Shula's won out- not to mention they were one of the four that actually offered something chocolate for dessert- he's not a creme brulee fan. We've never been to the Swan and Dolphin and will be staying at the Poly- we haven't decided on renting a car or doing the limo service yet- can we get to Shula's using Disney transportation? How does that work? Thanks for all your help!

You can get to Shula's buy taking the bus from the Polynesian to Downtown Disney and then transferring to the Swan/Dolphin bus or you could walk over to the TTC and catch a S/D bus there.

If you are already at a park you could just get on the Swan/Dolphin bus from that park.

Take a cab - it won't cost that much. After dinner stroll around the Boardwalk, have a drink(if you are so inclined) at The Bellevue Room (Lobby Bar in the BWI), then catch your cab back to the Poly. I guarantee you it will be less stressful than bus and transfer routine.

I might also suggest that if DH likes steak, consider The Yachtsman. It is located at YC/BC. This is my opinion: I was sorely disappointed in Shula's. I like Shula's, having eaten at the original Shula's in Miami Lakes (numerous times) and at the location in West Palm Beach. I can't put my finger on it - but something just isn't right. Service was ok, food was ok, just something missing. We just love The Yachtsman - food is always good - service is good and I like the atmosphere. Just me - just a suggestion. I think it also has do with the fact that the filet at Yachtsman seems to "melt" in my mouth, at Shula's I actually had to chew a little.

We just stayed at the Dolphin. If you are at MGM or Epcot, you can easily take the boat to the Swan/Dolphin. Actually from Epcot, it's a short walk from the International Gateway. It also is possible to take the monorail to Epcot, but you may have to go through TTC. You may want to take one type of transportation there and another on the way back. Depending on what time your ressies are, you may want to check out Epcot/MGM fireworks afterwards.

We went to Shula's last trip and we were staying at the Contemporary. This is how we got there and back:

Going- caught a bus to DtD, and transferred to a Swan/Dolphin bus. This took just over an hour!! (We waited probably 10 minutes at the CR, about 15-20 minutes to get to DtD, then waited at least 10 if not 15 minutes for the bus at DtD).

Had a very nice meal- food was A+, service was okay- I would give our one server a C-, but his co-server was an A+. If they didn't work in teams of two and we only had the one guy, I would have been very mad about paying for a $120 dinner with slip-shod service. He was very distracted with the party of 15-20 people that got seated after us- of course it was going to be a $400 tip easily, but nonetheless....

Coming back, after the transportation taking FOREVER (Which I did know in advance) we decided to take a cab to Downtown Disney and we shopped and had some fun. Then we took a bus back to the CR and that wasn't a problem. Since it was our date night and we on somewhat limited time (we told our parents we would be back before midnight since they had the two kids in their room), we splurged for the cab. If it was just the two of us and didn't have any time worries, I don't think I would have minded the busses. I have to add that the MK resorts are just about as far away as you can get from DtD, so it is about a 15+ minute bus ride, and that's if there is a bus waiting for you as you step out of your hotel.

We took a cab from the WL to Shula's and strolled the Boardwalk afterwards as a previous poster suggested. After spending all of that money on Shula's what's another $20 for round trip transportation. Actually the 2nd time that we went it was pouring rain and we were waiting for a cab when one of the valets from the lodge offered to drive us in the van. Disney hospitality wins again :).

Just want to clarify a bit -

You cannot get a bus to the Swan/Dolphin from the TTC. If the MK is still open when you go from the Poly to Shula's, go to the MK and catch the Swan/Dolphin bus from there. That will be the quickest way.

IMHO, the best way to get back to the Poly after dinner is to take a cab. I agree with some of the other posters - take some time and enjoy the Boardwalk activities after dinner. (And it never hurts digestion to walk just a bit after dinner). I can personally recommend some time at JellyRolls - a dueling piano bar. Lots of fun and a nice way to top off your evening. When you're ready to return to the Poly, catch a cab at the BWV/BWI. They're plentiful and the valet will gladly signal one up for you - they wait across the street, out of view.

Enjoy your dinner!
