We are looking into going to Disney in April 2013. We usually go in the summer because it is just so much cheaper to fly versus school vacation week. Has anyone gotten a decently priced flight out of Boston, Worcester, Hartford or PVD during the week of school vacation..??

I've never flown out of Worcester but a woman I was talking to at Hollywood Studios last week said she booked r/t airfare for her family (4) out of Worcester on DirectAir for about $600.

HTH!

WOW.. that is cheap!! I wonder how prices are for April.. Im only about 20 min for Worcester too!

She was talking about April/Easter vacation. I don't know anything about DirectAir or Worcester but it sounds like it would be worth checking out. We live in CT so I don't think we'd drive that far.

I am checking for that same time but BOS PVD HARTFORD are crazy high prices!

For 2012 we are going during what is spring break for many in New England (not Easter but leaving the friday after Easter). We are flying out of Hartford. Our flights on 4/13/12 were $99 pp through AA. flights back on 4/22/12 were $124 through Jet Blue. For the AA fare I booked at about 330 days out and for Jet Blue booked within minutes of them being released. I find with spring break the early bird gets the best fares and they climb from there. I still monitor for price drops but seems like prices just climb not drop.

A year ago, 2010, I was able to book Delta out of Logan for a good fare...can't remember exactly what it was, but my dd and I both flew r/t, nonstop, for under $450. But, you have to be looking at exactly the right time. I found the perfect flights/fares, and waited to double check with my dh before booking and 6 hrs. later the 'perfect' flights were gone. I had to fly on Monday and return on Friday, but 4 nights was better than 0 nights I guess.
Then, last April we flew DirectAir out of Worcester. I believe we paid about $140 pp, r/t. Booked a half price sale. We are flying in Oct, on DirectAir, using the Family Ties program....about $160 pp, r/t. I like DirectAir. My only issue with them is that when I actually booked our flights (bought the Family Ties vouchers way in advance), I was told by the CSR, that we would each get one free checked bag. But, now I'm finding that that wasn't true. So, it will cost us addtl, but we'll pack lighter to avoid those fees. Not happy being told something that wasn't true, but the CSR could very well have just made a mistake.

Otherwise, I fly out of TFGreen a lot. I get some decent SW flights. And out of Logan, I look for JetBlue, but seldom find any decent April break fares with them.

We are going October this year and got a great deal out of worcester. Worcester is a very small airport and has more delays/cancellations because of it location and size. However if you can get a flight it is so easy to fly out of and Direct air has some great deals. I would keep an eye out for deals on direct air (at there website). Also you do save some on parking, I think worcester is around $40 a week and Boston you would be lucky to get it for under $100.

I've also been looking at April airfare. I've been noticing that SW last airfare release had $129 as it's lowest base price out of BOS PVD and BDL!

Last year, I was able to get a great airfare out of BDL Hartford.

Has anyone ever driven part of the way to fly the rest? Say Newark? Which would be 5 to 6 hours of driving, but some of their fares are around $99 base.

I'm really considering driving this year for the first time. $129 base fare for 5 people is $1500 r/t.

I've never paid that much before.

Hi all,
I am still looking for Feb airfares out of PVD,or MHT. The fares are outrageous! Over 300.00 each way. I live in Worcester and would not fly direct air. They are ALWAYS are delayed! In fact it is the joke here. Also they only fly on certain days of the week and fly into Sanford not Orlando. The airport is very small with few restaurants etc. Direct Air does run many specials but I would not personally take the chance flying them unless you were traveling in good weather and if being delayed would not be a problem for you. Good Luck!

The trick with February and April school vacation weeks is to buy early. It can also help to consider taking your children out of school a day or two to get better priced flights. I'm a teacher and I left two days early last April for my Disney vacation. I found a price that I liked on flights that left Wednesday evening. We got into MCO late, which was a drag. I love my students but I enjoyed those two days. Many of my kids were in FL during vacation. I thought for sure that I was going to hear "Hi Mrs S.!"

When and if you find flights at a price that you like, do NOT hesitate to buy them. They will disappear fast. My father also suggests clearing the cookies on your computer in-between searches.

OP, you mentioned you want to fly April 2013. Did you type that correct? If you did, you have plenty of time. Flights for the major airlines do not release until 330 days in advance. The "discount" airlines, like Southwest, release flights much closer to the day of flight.

We flew DirectAir out of Worc in April....left right on time. Same thing coming home. And the vast majority of people I know haven't had any issues with DirectAir....sometimes they can be delayed a bit, but not by much. I did have one friend who had an equipment issue when flying with them, but they brought in a new plane for the next day....unusual for DA. That's an issue since they fly out of Worc maybe 3 times a week.

And yes, it is a tiny airport. Eat before you leave home, there isn't much available there. And don't fly during the winter...way too much chance of 'weather'.

But, if you look for the Family Ties deals, and buy vouchers when you see them, you can save a ton of money. But, be sure to check online constantly to see when they start booking for April...they book up fast.

The family ties deals that are mentioned on Direct Air now, can those be applied towards April flying ?

I would doubt they could be used for 2013. Ours had a set end date for use. I think it was Oct 2011...we just made it under the wire for our Oct trip.
It will say, on the website, when the vouchers have to be used by..so you will know before buying them.
Just checked the DirectAir site...the Family Ties vouchers being sold now are good through Oct 2012.

Direct Air would have been great for April VK if all the flights weren't sold out already.

I always forget about Direct Air. Oh well!

I also have $100 in SW gift certificates to use and probably more from Swagbucks.

I was tempted to book Jetblue the other day, but I'm gonna roll the dice and wait until October when SW opens up. I want to avoid taking off in Boston and Arriving back in Providence. :rolleyes1

It's really tough this year.

Gas prices are supposed to drop soon. I wonder if that will affect SW's prices?

Thanks, I was thinking to buy the voutures again when the come out next year for April 2013 and apply them to the April flight when they release them. Do they have blockout dates.?

I honestly don't remember. I don't think so. I flew the Thursday before school vacation last April...had a cruise on Sunday...didn't want to take a chance and arrive too late, so left a few days early and did US/IoA for two days. Then, we flew back on Easter Sunday..last day of vacation.
