New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Smaller Support teams for the WISH racing team - please go to the thread to be placed on a team. We do this to keep the numbers to a manageable state and to spead out to all the smaller teams to try to keep it equal.

Hey Warriors! Still having a heck of a time keeping up, but I'm still here and still training!

No run today- I wore new shoes to school Monday (for a sub job that should have been all in one classroom) instead I ended up walking from one end of the school to the other every period- then ran. I now have 2 open bleeding blisters on the tops of my second toes. Hopefully I'll be able to get back running by Friday or Saturday. (once the blister aren't oozy anymore I figure.)

Not the way to start the December thread LOL Sorry!

Pam - Ouch! HOpe those are healed soon! DO you have any injinji socks (toe socks). They do wonders for my second toes. Might help themstay healed when it's time to run again.

Ugh. Second readmill run of the season last night. 60 min. Ugh. Roads are icier today, so it looks like there will be a rematch for 45 min tonight. Anyone ever use a woodway? DH tried it lasst night. He said it hurt. Does not sound liek somethign I will try in teh near future. :p They have regular adn curved. He did the curved. It's not powered. You "drive" it yourself. DH said it can be difficult to control speed. No, I really don't need that. I have my own DM difficulties. :rotfl:

Howdy Warriors!

It's FINALLY cold down here. At least for a few days.

And I FINALLY got a LR in of about 16 miles a couple of days ago. Not a really good pace, but still good enough to break my goal if I do not completely fall apart. The biggest problem I have seems to be concentrated in my hamstrings, soI still have to do a lot of stretching.

And my other issue seems to be complete frickin' BOREDOM when I run by myself. I'm just not interesting enough to spend 3 hours with myself, by myself.:lmao::lmao:

Pam - Hope those feet feel better!
Carrie - Sorry about the cold weather.
Jim - :lmao: I'm sure we'd find you interesting!

I managed 5 miles in just under 70 minutes this morning. It felt pretty good and if my kids weren't getting restless and bored (and the youngest didn't need a diaper change so badly!), I could have gone further. I feel like I'm getting back on track for the 1/2 marathon. Now I just need to keep this up for the next 5 weeks!!!

Amanda

Hi Everyone

This week went OK. Just feeling a little "out of it" running wise. Mostly kept with my current rountine of 4 mile Monday, 4 Miles Wednesday, 6 Miles Friday. I decided to do the last mile Friday as Hills. There's a small, fairly steep hill close to where I get on the trail. I ran up and down it 5 or 6 times with a walk break on the flat bottom. Up and down took most of my 1 min. walk interval I was doing to get an Idea of the distance.

Like I said, I've just felt "out of it", my legs have been feeling heavy. They don't really hurt but they do bother me a little bit while I'm running. Tuesday is the last day of work until January. My student have Finals Monday and Tuesday. It will be nice to have some time off. The bad part is no class in December means no paycheck in January. But after 9 years, I'm used to it.

I would have typed up yesterday but my Tivo Died this week. And I spent most of the day yesterday trying to revive it. I ended up calling Directtv and getting a new DVR. As a long time customer they gave me a great deal. $100 for a new HD DRV installed with new dish and no HD fee for 2 years. I should have called them before I spent all day yesterday.

My toes are getting better quickly- the problem seems to be dress shoes rub the sore spots so I've been wearing athletic shoes since wednesday. Today for church will be the test LOL. I got 4 miles done inside Thursday but freaked a lady in the lockeroom out- she saw me putting body glide on my toes and thought it was deoderant LOL. (as if deoderant would help my feet not smell LOL-phew!)

Hopefully this week will get back to more "normal" running pattern- with holiday stuff going on getting 3 runs and 2 workouts in has been impossible.

Pam very pleased to hear that your blisters are starting to heal! Evil little things. I can't believe you actually had to run between sessions :confused3

Amanda  for being back on track and enjoying it. How brilliant to be able to say that you could have gone further too. A lovely way to end a run sometimes.

Jim congratulations on the chilly weather and for your fantabulous long run! You should try singing to yourself as you run, if the songs don't amuse you then people's faces around you will :rotfl:

Carrie The treadmill def has it's place in that sort of weather, but no I've never even seen a curved treadmill. Looks crazy!

me planning to keep upping mileage on the TM for now until the ice clears off the pavements. Freezing fog made for an interesting drive tonight! Got up to 5 miles last week so I'll aim for 5.5-6 as my long run next week. So eager to get on the road tho!!!! Trying to do glute exercises and failing miserably, they just don't feel right!!!!

Good Monday morning Warriors,

Hello from frigid central Illinois. It was -11 with the wind chill this morning. I was supposed to run 5, but I think I will wait til after work to do it.

Ran 16 miles in 6 inches of snow on Saturday. Actually it was not too bad until the end. The plows ahd been out and the snow was beginning to melt & it got quite sloppy.

Less tha a month away, I am really getting excited about going Goofy. Hope your training is going well, see ya in less than a montth. :cool1:

Stan

Pam - lol about the woaman in teh locker room. Hope tehy heal soon. SInce my first stress faracture, my dressiest shoes fro work are Born. :rotfl:

Jim - I am so blessed to have a running partner! Oh, oin 2009, Roxy joined us for a bit. (LIke 10 miles) It was great to hear new stories and tell someone stories who hasn't heard al lof ours. Yes, boredom is tough!
My favorite hammy stretch is to sit with your butt right against teh wall. Slowly twist adn lie on your back, so your back is on teh floor and legs up the wall. Gently flex toes and push butt into floor to get stretch. If you ever get piriformis issues, cross one ankle over opposite knee and slide straight leg down wall. WOrks wonders!
Johde - Brrr!!! Seems liek teh cold has hit so quickly. 29 should feel nice to me adn hasn't lately.

Kate - Sorry about the snow. :-( I feel your pain! Hope those glute exercises get better soon. Dh just got some glute stretches/exercises. Shoudl I try to scan and e-mail to you?

Amanda - Could have gone longer but a diaper needed changing. :rotfl: I know it's not really funny, but it cracked me up. I am so impressed by all you do with all the things you have on your plate!

We did our 18-miler Saturday. 29 and just breezy for teh first 1/3. Got windier at teh end, but it was more to our back. The worst part was teh snow/slush ice on teh path. Not enough to keep us from being out but enough to be miserable. Too long of a run for Yak Traz, though.

I was told by a friend yesterday, though, to take some old shoes adn put 3 hex screws in teh toe adn 2 in the heal for longer LRs. Might eb worth a try!

Hi Warriors!

Quick update from me because Callum is currently sleeping in his swing but he's starting to fight the sleep so I don't know how long I have! :lmao:

I'm off the wagon BAD! We've been so busy the last couple weeks, and will be so busy for the next week, that I haven't gotten ANY training runs in. :scared1: Callum has been going through another growth spurt and not sleeping long enough for me to even get on the treadmill. Man, I am SO GLAD that I chickened out on the Goofy, this year. I can dial in a half, but there's no way I could go into a full with the kind of training regime I've been having, lately. I'm looking forward to Callum getting a bit older (and the weather a bit warmer) so I can take him out in the running stroller.

I did run the Girls on the Run 5K on Saturday with my "running buddy", Stacy. My report is on the race reports thread. To sum it up: 0.5 miles of sprinting, 2 miles of speed intervals, 0.5 miles of plodding and complaining, and then a sprint to the end. :rotfl: It was a good time. I'm running the Jingle Bell Run 5K for the Arthritis Foundation on Sunday, which is always a fun event. I love holiday races! I'm hoping to get out for 6 miles after the race, but after leaving my 4 month old all morning, I don't think I'll be able to run out for another 90 minutes without a rebellion.

If nothing else, my 10 mile run is happening on December 26th. I might not get in ANYTHING before that, but my 10 miler is happening. :rotfl:

Hope everyone is having a fabulous December! Only a month until packet pick-up for marathon weekend!

Hi Warriors! I think most of us have taken on the role of "winter" warriors at this point!

Pam - Good luck with the blisters. It's amazing how painful they can be.

Carrie - I hear ya on the treadmills. But glad you were able to get out for the 18 miler. What's your longest run on a treadmill?

Jim - I'm with Kate on this one...there's a lady around here that rides her motorcycle and sings. Apparently she puts on quite a show.

Amanda - You can do it! For me, my motivation to get in the cold and crank out the miles is the fun and (hopefully, unlike last year) some sunshine and warm weather of Marathon weekend.

Jeremy - What do you think of a cold bath when you have the "heavy" legs? Particularly after hills?

Stan - Nothing like running in that wet slop and finishing a 16 miler with 10 pound shoes!

Sarah - Sounds like you had a fun training run. Holiday races are a great time!

For me, I decided to change over to the half. I'm having some hip pain that I'm in denial about and there is no way that I could get a full in right now, not to mention the training for it. I ran 9 today after wimping out of the wind and cold yesterday and felt great. But running is so much more fun when you aren't dressed like Ralphie's brother in "A Christmas Story!" :rotfl:

Sarah - So glad you are not doing Goofy or full! I knwo you are tough and can get through with the littl etrinaing you have, but I do hope you get more in!

Courtney - Yes, life is better when you don't ahve 1000 layers. Still, I'll take it over 80+ degrees any day! Just so it's not below 20. Bad thigns happen then. You should probably know taht dh and I trained for our first full without stepping on a treadmill. Teh path conditions were horrible and most runs were 20 degrees adn 20 mph winds. :-O Then again, that's likely why we had our best time the first time. Anyway, we are NOT indoor workout people. I've gotten a bit whimpy now adn I won't go when we can hurt ourselves :-p, but still iek to be out when we can. Our longest TM run was 10 miles. DH is sure it was our 20-miler. Yes, he's worse than me. :rotfl: I know many have done up to 22 miles on a TM, but tha twill never be me!

Swim class last night. She killed me. We had to do 100 IMs followed by 25 free 3 times. That's 75 meters of butterfly! Had yoga this am. Told my instructor my body was actually doing pretty good. She killed me too. :sad2: Next time I'm going to make up pains. :rolleyes1

I finally got back to training. We just walked 3.15 miles and the knee felt great.:cool1: We took it easy, so the next walk we will pick up the pace.

Hope everyone else is doing well. One more month to go.

Kathy

18 miles today. Cold. Windy. A bit tight, but otherwise not too bad.

Probably the longest LR I'm gonna' get in Hopefully It'll do.

Kathy - Hooray for the knee feeling great!

Jim - We've had eysr where we didn't complete our 18 or our 20-milers and been fine. You will be too! COngrats on the 18! Curious as to how cold ti was. The temps down there have been horrible!

TM run last night. One of my better ones. That's not saying much. Core today. First time sicne February I've had to come to work after core. ALready feel myself stiffening up. The money will be very nice, though.

Stan you shame me! You ran 16miles in 6 inches of snow!!!! Fantastic.

Carrie oh that would be amazing- not sure if you still have my email address, if not i'll PM you. If you put the screws in your shoes it will be like you're tap dancing your way through the run! On the yoga front that's teach you for being honest! Cruel!

Sarah I have an image in my head of how Callum looks fighting sleep and it's very cute! Great move doing the half, way less pressure for you and that means less guilt please- you're doing fantastically getting runs in so be proud!

Courtney I hope you get to the bottom of your hip pain- rubbish. Ooooh motorcycle riding and singing actually sounds quite challenging!

kathy :banana::yay: for your knees!

Jim I think we'll take an 'otherwise not bad' training run- sound like a big improvement.

me lots of treadmill fun and cross training- 6 miles max now and have abandoned my orthotics! eek. Well clearly they weren't helping! feel a little extra stressed as have been monitoring a lump on my neck for the last 4 months and going back to GP tomorrow to see what to do/might be. Know it's an angry lymph node, but not why. Going for a distracting run in a bit after putting the tree up and cleaning the whole house today. Makes me more efficient if nothing else!

Hi All you Warriors

Sarah - That race sound like what a kid would do. Good luck getting some training runs in.

Courtney - Sorry to hear about your hep. I don't know about the Ice Bath, but I kinda took an Ice Shower.

Carrie - Sound like a tough swimming workout.

Kathy - Good to hear your getting back at it again after your post Space Coast Recovery. You should hopefully be able to build the miles back up more quickly this time and at a little bit faster pace.

Jimb - Congratulation on the training run.

Kate - Getting out the house to run can be a great distraction.

AFM - I got 3 workouts in this week but now my normal stuff. First between the weather and being finals week, I ended up working out Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Instead of Monday,Wednesday, Friday.

Tuesday - Went to the fitness center on Campus to work on the Treadmill between classes. I started out trying the walk .2 mi/ run .3 miles and did that twice for the mile 1. Decided I needed to switch things up (I hate treadmills), so walked .25 miles/Ran .5 mi./Walked .25 mi. For Mile 2. For the Third Mile, I decided to do some speed work. alternateing walking and running for .125 mi. I Ran 5 mph, then 5.5 and then finally 6.0. And finished up with a cooldown walk. My total distance was just over 3 miles. Not too bad for my first treadmill workout since March. Went back to the locker room to change clothes to get to my second class. Got my Towel and headed to the showers and found out I didn't have any hot water. I was too sweaty to just get dressed and go to class so I ended up taking a cold "sponge shower" to clean up a little bit.

Thursday- Finals done, and decided to run on the "Open road" for the first time because the trail I normally run on doesn't get plowed. I went 3 miles from my house to the main square in town and back again. I ended up running a little bit faster than I normally do. I don't know if I was being self conscience for having people watch me, not that they were interested in what I was doing.

Saturday - Once again on the open road. A little bit different 5 mile loop around to the square and back home again. I'm still trying to learn what roads are good to run on. Once again faster than I should have been. I also included a hill at the end. Next time I'll do it at the beginning to slow me down.

The weather the supposed to be bad the next couple of days. With a wintery mix, we started as rain and have now switched to snow. It's too far to drive to campus just to workout so I'll need to see what I can do to workout. I just don't trust myself running on snow yet, but I did traverse a couple of patches this past week.

Hi warriors,
Kate - Good luck at the Dr.'s

Jeremy - Great job on training

Jim - We got our walk in before those winds that you had came to us.

Carrie - Great job on doing the length with the butterfly. A tough stroke

Courtney - Sorry for the hips and that cold weather.

AFM - my husband and I got out on Friday and did a quick 2.95 miles but included some sprints at 15. No knee pain. Today we did 6.15 miles at an overall pace of 17. Did some 15's for the last .5 miles. We just wanted the miles and still no knee pain:banana:. I am doing exercise for the knee so hopefully that is helping.

Kate - I'll try to scan tonight. I htink I stil have your e-mail. Will PM you if I don't. :wizard::wizard::wizard:Hope all is ok with the lymph node!!

Jeremy - That evil storm missed us. Hope oyu got lucky too!

Kathy - Sending you lots of pixie dust for your knee come race day!!!

Had an 8-miler on ice/snow. Messes wiht my pace, but it was ok. Praying we can do our 20-miler at home outside.
