December or summer?

Our last trip was August 2003. I am thinking of going December 16-21 or sometime in the summer. Would those December dates be less crowded than between Christmas and New Years? Which would you choose?

12/16-12/21 would definitely be less crowded than between Christmas and NYE. That last week of December might well be the most crowded week of the year. I also think your week might be less crowded than most of the summer, since most school kids are still in school in your week.

Be mindful, though, that weather is totally unpredictable in that week. You could have gorgeous days with the highs in the 60's and sunny, or it could be windy, cloudy and highs in the 40's that time of year. Pack a little bit of everything, maybe even a bathing suit for the heated pools, if you dare.

Thanks for the reply. I can handle crowds if it is not hot. That is why I think December would be the best choice.

My favorite time to go is early December, everything is decorated so beautifully and the crowds are lower, the weather will be cooler, but I think it's worth it. It's such a wonderful time to go. The summer is just too hot and crowded.

Hello everyone. This is my first post here. But reading the last replys has me worried. We are taking a family vacation the week after christmas and I planned on taking my daughter out to orlando for a few nights. Thinking about staying at the POP. But the weather has me worried. Can people share there weather stories with me if they have traveled that week before. Just wondering what I should expect. Thanks!

Mid-December is an awesome time to go!
Decorations are beautiful, crowds are small and it's cool!
Be sure to check one of the Orlando weather websites before you pack, since as someone else mentioned, the weather is a little unpredictable.

This is a good one.

In the past, I have brought jackets to put in a locker if I'm going to be staying in a park after dark. The temp can really drop after sunset and unless you want to buy a Mickey sweatshirt, you're gonna need those jackets.

As cool as it can be in the months of December and January, you can rest assured that it will be 25-30 degrees warmer in those cold snaps than it will be where I live in southern Kentucky. I'd imagine the difference will only be greater for Connecticut. If it's blustery and in the 50's in Orlando (sweater weather), just try to imagine how much better that is than 10's or 20's and blizzard-ish in your home state! It's all relative. Usually the cold snaps in Florida last for a day or two, then it gets back to more of a mid-60's pattern, which is just about ideal for roaming the parks, when you think about it. Pack for everything from mild winter to late spring, and you should be alright.

My preference is December. We like to go every December and April. The weather is not too warm and the crowds are not bad. April can get tough, but that is not a concern for you.

Enjoy.

IMO, I'd chose December. If you end up going in summer, I'd chose the latter part of August. We went this year in July and I wondered what I was thinking by going then several times during our visit. I have to agree that I can handle the heat, and I can handle the crowds. I just wish that I did not have to handle them together!
Good luck! Have a great time! :sunny:
