Just wondering if a 2wd Volvo V70 is likely to be able to get around in northern Nova Scotia in early December. We will be there scouting out property from Dec. 2- Dec. 8th. and I am having a hard time finding out about road contitions that time of year. To make this Disney related....WOOHOO! We leave in 3 days for WDW! Very excited. I have two boys ages 4 and 7, perfect Disney age! :cheer2:
Thanks!

It's about 50/50...

Last year, we had beautiful weather up until early Jan...(by beautiful, I mean no really *huge* snowstorms;) ..well, maybe one or two, but nothing awful. I think school was cancelled two days through Nov and December)

Just lots of overcast days, some flurries, mixed with rain, sleet kind of stuff.:)

All that being said, even if there is stormy weather, road crews around here are awesome, and the main roads are well kept. If you have decent snow tires on your car, and drive defensively, you'll be fine:)

And we'll have to meet at Tim's for tea!!

Have a wonderful trip!!!

Greetings From Coxheath, Cape Breton

Driving should not be any problem for you in December, however it would be a good idea to have snow tires. Generally the roads are fine but there is a possibility for some snow. Last year we had our first snow storm on Dec. 27th and it was nasty. All the Best! :flower:

My SIL, and BIL live in Coxheath:)

Nice to have another CBer on the boards :goodvibes

Are you on the Island as well?
I remember last years storm so vividly because we were flying out of Halifax on the 28th for WDW. We had to make a quick decision and leave Sydney a day earlier, boxing day. :Pinkbounc We were stranded in Halifax airport for 16 hours, eventually getting as far as Montreal on the 27th. It was a real nightmare but the end result was wonderful, bringing in the New Year with DH and 2DS.

Thanks. Tea sounds lovely! Where is Tim's?

We are from just outside Washington DC, I posted about moving up to the Cape recently - we are not comfortable living between DC and a nuclear powerplant anymore and want to start a little sustainable farm in beautiful NS. We were going to fly up but, its going to be like $1200 US. We have family in Boston so, we will make a pit stop there and plow on up to NS the next day. It is a 17 hour trip. We could drive the other direction and be at WDW in a 17 hours, ironically!

Thanks everyone for responding. It sounds like the odds are good that we should be fine in the 2 WD Volvo Wagon in early December. Kicking myself now for not springing for the 4WD Volvo XC! Our vehicle does have good tires and it has a bad weather mode for the transmission and it has very responsive handling.

Yep::yes:: St. Peter's

Same thing happened to us in January - flew out a day early, skipped over two snowstorms, overnighted in TO, then on to WDW:)

Life's good when you've got tickets to get outta Dodge before the weather!!

Amy, you asked where Tim's is...aahhh, I don't think you'll even need to hit the border on your way here in December to find out;)

When you can't live without it - then you'll know you're a true Canadian!! :teeth:
