December car discounts?

Does anyone know when they will come out with lower rates or codes for December? Right now car rental prices are outrageous! I'm really hoping they lower the rates. I'm going the 8th of December through the 15th. Anyone had any luck in previous Decembers?

I think the price will come down as you get closer. That seems to be the case for most people here.

I've just noticed in the last couple of days that people going in August/September are just starting to get a lower rate.

I check here daily to see if anyone's posting that they got a good rate and it's helped me more than once bring down my rate although I've hit a dry spell since 5/10/01. That's when I got the $144 base rate (before taxes and discounts). Before that it was $211! and before that it was $153, $161, $218. So it varies quite a bit! I've been checking since mid-February.

It really helps if you belong to the Disney Club. They have the best discount going. I can't use their coupon as of now because it expires September 30 but I'm using their contract number for a good discount and I've got a coupon from United Mileage Plus for another $20 off. There are several coupons out there: Entertainment, BJ's, Cosco's, Disney, AAA, etc...

My best recommendation is to check the rates daily!! My trip is the week of Dec 1 - 8 and I booked my SUV through Dollar about 2 months ago for $197.00 for the week. I don't know why that was the rate at the time - I did not use any "code" or coupon it just happened that way. I checked again about 3 days later and it was no longer that rate. Although I am happy with this rate, I still check daily just in case they may go down further. Good luck!!

I've rented cars from National the past 2 Decembers, first or second week and the price went down towards the end of summer/early fall. Last December I only paid $107 for the week, that was Emerald Club discount plus a $15 Entertainment coupon.

I'm sitting right now with a National reservation for the first week in December for a Group B (Chevy Cavalier or similiar) for $109 including all taxes and fees. Used the DC contract number and a coupon that came in my Delta FF statement. I can live with this.
