I don't know why i never thought of this before, probably because i dont' remember ever having an issue with bugs at WDW before. But as we know, the Ft is a whole diffrerent experience.

Soo......how bad are the bugs in December? Will i need to bring bug spray?

Bugs? Disney allows bugs?

Seriously, we've been at the Fort the first 2-3 weeks of December for the past several years and never have had any trouble with bugs. We spend most of our time at the campsite sitting outside, and although I bring bug spray, I don't think I've ever used it. And I'm someone mosquitoes tend to find most delicious.

I have never found myself anywhere on Disney property thinking, "man I wish I had bug repellant". I have been bit a few times on the sandy nature trail between the Fort and WL, but not enough that I thought I needed repellant, but that is a very woodsy, natural trail. You shouldn't have any problems at the Fort, especially in December.

We go every year at this time and 2-3 times in Spring and Fall. NO BUGS EVER!

No bugs in December that I can remember.

I seem to remember getting bitten by the notorious Decorations Bug that is very prevalent at FW during that time of year. No repellent known to man can keep it from biting.

Be prepared for a lifetime fight against this sucker. Once bitten, it buries itself deep within the cortex and the only way to temporarily relieve its hunger is a return visit to FW again and again and again and ......

Ok.....I live in Florida and seem to live at the Fort.....there are bugs everywhere all the time......and there's this new bug out called a White Boxer but bug spray does not work on her....lol

Well, you must be made of sugar and spice and other things nice... they barely bother me, but I'm all vinegar, hot sauce, beer and gin -- FL bugs must not like such things. The NC ones do, though!

:santa:

We have spent Christmas and New Year's holiday at FW since 2004. Last year was the only year that we had any issue with bugs. I have no idea what bit us but it was undetectable until I (the tastiest) developed itchy red bites on my lower legs. DH and the kids were less "tasted". My only guess is due to the unusually warm fall and December the bugs fared better and had better access to the buffet presented when we wore shorts.:confused3

The dreaded no-see-ums! I was beginning to think I was the only one to get bit by these nasty things. Especially hungry around dusk.

thanks guys! I'm trying to remember whether we wore shorts or jeans the last time we were at WDW in December. I think we did jeans and tshirts, so hopefully the legs will be covered and we won't get bit. I'd hate to be covered in bug bites before we go sail on teh Wonder! :lmao:

At the moment, the mosquitoes are quite prevalent at FtW, but that's due to all the rain we've been having, and all the standing water at the Fort. We were there last Friday nite (6/12), and around dusk, the gnats and mosquitoes were out in full force.

I can honestly say that I've never experienced bugs like that at the Fort, and we're there all the time - either camping or on a day trip.

In December, there are hardly any bugs in all of Florida. Well - maybe in remote swamp areas, but not at the Fort or populated areas. No worries - leave the Cutter's at home! :thumbsup2
