I have a DVC reservation for 12/18 - 12/21. How long do you think I can wait until I get tickets and make park reservations? At this point I'm not sure if we'll end up going and who knows what the parks will look like in December but I have until August to make a go/no go decision.

I have no idea. I have dvc res and a few other things scheduled.
I had Cdn discount tickets which were extended to sept and I called this week and to change the 5 of them to dec it’s an additional $1175 USD ..
I kinda want to wait and see if they extend it before paying another $1175.. bit I worry about it being Xmas

If you don't mind being shut out of HS, you can probably wait until your August decision to make your park reservations. However, if HS is a priority for you, the sooner you can book your park reservations the better. Even in August, I would think you would have a reasonable chance at HS, but who knows what things will look like that far down the road. :confused3

Safe space?

I truly think the US is going to be in a very good place come ~June. You're gonna see a boom in travel plans being made through the rest of the year.

We're going 12/24 - 1/1 and made our park reservations, but we also booked tickets as part of a package, so we can cancel the entire trip if need be.

I know it would stink to have park tickets and then have to cancel, but wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry? If you cancel, will you be able to get back there within a year? I think that's how far you can push tickets if you need to change your travel plans. To me, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

We are going 12/11-19. We rented DVC points for a stay at the AKL, and we bought tickets through a ticket broker. I have made park reservations at this point, but I will possibly need to change them if MVMCP happens to be held. I can extend the tickets to a future period and just pay the difference in price if we have to cancel so we didn't feel we were taking a big risk by getting them now.

That’s what I’m thinking too. The deal I bought the ticket on is good until September. To change dates is $1175. If I pay that and the border closes longer and they extend the deal .. they said non-refundable so I’m out $1175. I expected the difference sometimes is huge. I was expecting around $500 maybe ..

Have you spoken directly with WDW or are you dealing with a third-party agent saying $1175 and non-refundable? The big increase is due to the discounted tickets and bringing them up to "current" rates (which can be high for December). But that $1175 should NOT be lost if you are doing the date change directly with WDW. If you didn't go in Dec. your tickets would then have the new higher value towards any future date (2022 or beyond).

I pushed my trip off til 2022...as much as I'd like to think Disney will be back to the Disney I want to visit (fireworks, character meals and no masks) I'm going to give it more time. Too many "experts" already saying 2022 and it's not up to what I believe but what Disney wants to do.

That was a Disney phone rep quote. And was told non refundable. I get the holding current value but my fear is they will have these discounted rates or similar again to try and lure Canadians back and I will pay a lot more for them if I purchase now .
it’s just a lot as a single mom when you feel like the vacation is so much to begin with , a pandemic hits ( I know not Disney’s fault ) and I owe another $1500 with exchange rate. It’s pricing us out at this point

@TammyLynn33 -- yes, the amount you pay to upgrade the discounted tickets would be "non-refundable" in that you cannot request it back, but it is not "lost" because you retain the value already paid for the new dated full-priced tickets. I understand the budget challenges, though, and it's a tough decision if you aren't sure you'll travel.

The issue I have with booking days out this far is what happens once the dates for the xmas parties, etc are released? Then I have to go back and rebook them anyways.

I totally understand it’s not lost but if the same or similar promo happens to lite Canadians south . That $1175 might be $875, so I’m costing myself the $300.. there will be a lot of Canadians with these tickets stuck owing an extra 1K or more and everything I’m reading is people are downgrading and spending money elsewhere . Universal etc especially is border opens later and or people aren’t comfortable traveling and there’s no MDE so the Disney bubble they had us in is popped.

True, but in our case we didn't want to take the risk of things filling up by waiting too long to buy tickets. So at least we have something in place just in case....
