December 2020 W.I.S.H. - Finding Delight

Love the robin thing!!

The B definitely speaks to me, as I’m a big believer that being at your best lets you give your best to others - “You can’t pour from an empty kettle.” and all that.

And the I is the one I most need to pay attention to this break. It’s easy for me to put things off when I’m out of my normal routine, especially with DH and DS off as well, so I like the idea of looking at my list as investing time in projects that I want to do.

I'm pretty good at physical rest, and sometimes do well with mental rest but more often than not the brain is still churning. I need to focus on setting my phone down and getting away from that mental distraction/stimulation and also on being kind to myself, developing a tender relationship with myself.

Yesterday I invested in myself by using some of my time to get in 4100 steps, quite an improvement over the 1500 steps the day before. I'll try to get to 5000 today, and I'll also cutback more on sugar today.

Tonight we have the last full Moon of the year:

"this planetary shift signals that we will be able to go after what we value and initiate a new beginning following a period of life-altering experiences that have led to healing."

Sounds pretty darn good to me.

Which one of these speaks to you?
R Rest: I have been sleeping late and getting plenty of rest.
O Observe:
B Be kind to yourself:
I Invest time in yourself:
N Nurture yourself:
Exercise covers all of the above, and that is what has been lacking. I have arthritis, and I have been having pain in my back and hips from lack of activity. Finally, the sun was shining today, so DD and I put on our down jackets and went for a walk on the beach. It was windy and cold, so the beach was deserted. It was wonderful, and my body feels better now. Tomorrow might be another good day to go to the beach, but the rest of the week will be rainy. I can't wait for my new treadmill to arrive so that I can walk every day no matter what kind of weather we're having.

Woohoo... it's Friday! Hip hip hurrah another extended weekend!

Woohoo... the med I was taking for my thyroid is available again, so in a couple days when my doctor gets back I'll be able to start taking it. I saw the substitute chiropractor yesterday, who is a specialist in cranial stuff, and she adjusted my skull plates again and said there is a lot of head stuff going on. I slept really well last night but have more of a headache this morning than I have been having, hoping it is more of a healing condition with stuff getting released.

Woohoo... I've been having a tough time mentally settling in to reading lately, but just got a new book (because the 12 books in my to-be-read queue just weren't enough) that I think I'm going to really be able to sink in to. It is called "Wintering, The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times" written by Katherine May. I started following her on IG before the book arrived and felt an instant connection, really liking her voice and energy. I'm taking it with me to PT to read on the ferry and in the hotel room... I'm staying in one of the Victorian hotels right in town so it'll be great to snuggle up with a book and soak up the atmosphere.

We're in for several rainy days with just a few breaks in the wetness... this means snow in both mountain ranges, so woo hoo for that as well!

My grandson wanted to spend the night with us, so we are having a day of fun. Bike rides (Grammy walks), board games, movies. I enjoy watching him throw the football around with his grandfather.
After we return him to his parents tomorrow I have a nice dinner planned for the two of us. Those monster crab legs were on sale so we’re having those and a big salad and baked potatoes. Ready to ease into my healthy eating this week!

Woohoos for today are that I had a good dentist appointment and that I got to pet M&FIL's new dog again! (I had to drop dome things off at their house while I was over that way.)

I'm planning to make lobster mac 'n cheese for New Year's Eve dinner.
Lobster Mac and Cheese is one of those recipes I have always wanted to try! Do you have a favorite recipe?

I planned the same meal for tomorrow plus some steamed shrimp too.

Woohoo for time off to catch up on Disney+ (Soul, Mulan, and Animal Kindgom - all 8 episodes)

Woohoo my sister (a pregnant pediatrician) & brother-in-law (family medicine doctor) both got their first Covid vaccine shot.

I just found out that teachers will continue to teach remotely from home on the 4th for another week. Wow. By the time I go back, it will have been 25 days since I was in my classroom. I’m thankful that they are being safe. I just didn’t expect to be home for so long.

Oh, and my treadmill is delayed.

I love the phrase “thankful for small mercies.”

I expected our Christmas to feel different and it was was-but the five of us could be together and that was enough.

I’m thankful for the beautiful weather today and the time spent outdoors with my husband and grandson.

I’m thankful when I told my grandson his father will pick him up at 3:30 tomorrow unless he wants to go home earlier and he tells me he’d rather go later.

Thankful when I check my phone there’s several messages from friends.

I’m thankful for video chats with family.
I’m thankful I have a job.
I’m thankful for a break from my job ;)
I’m thankful for online ordering.
I’m thankful for extra time right now to help my kids practice their driving (their driving tests are Saturday).
I’m thankful my parents handed down a 2004 minivan for my kids to share.

Thankful Thursday:

1. Christmas went better than expected.

2. We've gotten along well while being together 24/7, which is code for DH controlled his Irish temper.

3. My school district is taking extra measures to protect us from Covid.

4. DD continues to do well in art/design school in spite of the pandemic.

5. IT IS NEW YEAR'S EVE & THIS HORRENDOUS YEAR IS FINALLY COMING TO AN END!!!
