I am deciding to tent camp December 18,2015 thru January 3, 2016 for the first time at The Fort.

Most of us have been to The World many times, some of us, NEVER! Most of us have been to The World in late November thru early December and early January on but never over Christmas and New Years.

We have usually stayed Value but have stayed Moderate and Deluxe.

We do camp outside of The World so camping in general is not new for us but Camping in The World will be.

And the one place in The World we have never even stepped foot is The Fort. And there is not much talk about camping around the boards, expecially in a tent.

As of this morning there are tent sites available. How long can I wait till I have to book for fear of losing my chance? Am I crazy for thinking of tenting it in December? Which tent loop is better 1500 or 2000? Are the comfort stations crowded in the "rush hour" times or is if less because most of the place is people camping in RVs with showers? Anything else this nosey, over planner needs or would like to know?

Thanx for your help in advance!

I couldnt tell you on the comfort stations, I use my own facilities other then laundry. For 6 years now I have been going to FL for 2 weeks usually arriving between christmas and new years and staying the 2 weeks. I would recommend you pack for 3 seasons (Winter , Spring and early Summer), as we have seen all 3 in a 2 week period. I don't count fall because FL is always green.

Sometimes you can luck out with high 50's at night and high 70's during the day, other times youll be shivering in near frost temps overnight and high 40's during the day.

As long as you pack accordingly, the seasonal temps are that of fall/spring local to you should be ok. I also can't say on tent sights filling up that time of year, but since I believe pop ups can also use tent sites I would think that their availibity becomes limited.

I would reserve now, you only have to pay 1 nights worth up front, and youll have plenty of time to cancel if you reconsider.

Book immediately. Surprised it is not full for that time frame.
I preferred the 1500 loop. It was a little smaller but to me more convenient to the Meadow Area.
Havn't been at Christmas time but the Female CS side would get backed up during rush times. For the guys, I was always walkin (sorry girls). It was almost at the point that I was waniting to tell some girls to post a watch and have a couple of them use the boys side.
On packing, yes prepare for 3 seasons. Could be warm, could be in 40s. Freezing is very unlikely but not impossible especially in early January.

One other note. I think I would do the parks early in the trip and enjoy the Campground more during the Christmas to New Years time. The parks will be crazy busy then.

You probably will not need a fan, but take a small electric space heater and electric blankets or throws. Take an extension cord and outlet strip and you should be fine.

Personally, I would not want to have to get out of a warm bed and trek all the way to a comfort station on a cold night, so I take a shower tent and camping potty, unless I am camping alone; then I just keep the potty in the tent with me. I also sleep in a sweat suit so I am warmer and more presentable if I have to exit the tent.

The comfort stations at Fort Wilderness are some of the nicest you will find at a campground. I don't find the comfort stations at Disney, beach or anywhere as busy as I used to. I know at the beach you can always depend on them busy in the evening, everyone showering after a day at the beach, to go out to eat, but not so much of that at Disney.

When we camped in a pop up we used to ask to be near the bathroom. I read on here that one lady always asked Disney to put her across from the bathhouse.

We always make sure to visit Fort Wilderness at least once if not multiple times each time we are at Disney. It is our favorite resort, and we have never even stayed there. DH and I LOVE LOVE LOVE camping, but can't justify pulling the camper 14 hours when we can stay DVC for $200 a week.

I imagine the comfort stations will be pretty steady in the morning/night. We have never camped at Disney, but camp frequently otherwise, and when the comfort stations are nice, they will be very popular. The downside to showering in the camper, is you only have about 10 gallons of hot water, so you are limited on the shower you can take. When we are tired, or cold and have a nice comfort station, DH and I always go to the bath house to shower.

Make sure you to take strings of lights. They provide just enough light to see, but aren't blinding at night and don't attract bugs (although, that shouldn't be an issue when you go). Fort Wilderness if very dark in the loops at night!!

We stopped over in Disney 2 nights on the way to Sanibel 2 years ago for New Years, and it was CRAZY busy!!! We didn't go in the park intentionally but went to the resorts, and the buses were packed all day long!! We were talking to someone on the monorail that was saying on December 30th MK was closed to all by 10am. That night it took us 45 minutes to get from MK to Poly on the monorail because it was taking so long to load and unload.

Book it, Dano! You can always cancel if you change your mind, but why would you want to? On the comfort stations in 1500 and 2000, they do get busy at peak hours but you can hop on your bike and head to a CS in an RV loop and there's likely to be no line :thumbsup2
