December 2011 - Christmas with Mickey!! Who's Coming Along and Planning Help Thread!!

I just found this list and I'm not going until 12/26- 1/2 of 2012/2013 so I'm trying to get as much of a feel for it as I can. Normally I wouldn't touch Christmas Week with a 10 foot pole but we're doing a Grand Gathering and two of our family members have school schedules to contend with!

Going back to catch up!

We are maybe going to go Dec. 22-29 (POP), but what's holding me back is how high the airfare is right now. Has anyone bought airfare yet for Christmas or are you waiting?

We went Dec. 25-Jan. 1 2009 so if anyone has any questions about Christmas week I can answer them. We had prepared ourselves for really bad crowds but they weren't as bad as expected except for one night in MK.

I purchased airfare last month. Glad I did because the price went from $94 (one way) to $490. I thought flights out of PIT were more expensive than usual, we are flying out of a different airport this time.

Airfare for my has been chilling at just above $300 for a while now, so I'm going to wait a while and see if it goes down. We're going no matter what, but we might drive 2 hours to fly out a different airport if it saves $100/person.

Our airfare from MKE to MCO is really expensive right now, especially flying Sat to Sat. Right now it's actually cheaper for us to fly out Friday night and have the rooms for an extra night....we're debating. I would like to have it all set by Labor Day...

We are staying at the Beach Club Villas Dec. 17-23 (driving from Michigan). It is our surprise Christmas gift to our boys.

Mom, Gramma and 5 year old & 16 week old boys. POFQ Nov 30-Dec 5!
Looking for a Photopass Share - any suggestions?
Any scheduled DIS meet-ups? :ccat:

SSR 12/29 until 1/3 or 1/4/2012 still haven't booked return airfare leaning toward staying until 1/4:):)

Made dining reservations yesterday:cool1:

We actually could have made them a month ago but I kinda put it off untill this weekend:rolleyes1 But, we still got into Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey's at the times we wanted! Gotta love first week of December compared to Feb. break, we would have NEVER gotten into those two after a month for Feb. break!

We actually only did 3 reservations (2 dinners, 1 breakfast) because we've really tried it all and there aren't too many places we want to return to. I mean, we have always LOVED where we have eaten in WDW but I guess it gets to a point where you don't want to go back to the same places too much if you get what Im saying. Ohana's is probably our only top restuarant we are not going to, it feels like we only do Ohana's every other year though and we did it last year. There are also a lot of off property places that we like to eat and since we do have a kitchen and DTD is right there we don't need too many reservations already made.

Im going on and on tonight. I am getting SO excited for this trip now. This always happens, I get super Disney excited/oriented four times a year. The month before we go, when we are there, the 2 weeks after we get back, and a few weeks during the summer! I think its just because summer is so far away from when we go most years.

Is this happening to anyone else right now? Like you are getting REALY excited for disney because its mid summer?

I did not have time to update. Grandmother went into the hospital this weekend. I will get to it soon.

Hi,

We are planning on flying out on Dec. 25th as well. Can recall the prices of airfare and what your flight was like? Departing at around noon. Right now the price is well over twice what we payed for our August trip last year. I figured most people would not actually travel Christmas day but we are suprising the kids with a trip from Santa.

Our trip was in 09 and unfortunately the airfare has skyrocketed since then. I bought my tickets that year the day southwest released them in June, and paid $79 each way. I didn't want to leave on Christmas day, but that and returning New Years day were the cheapest. The airfare is so high now. I priced out another Christmastime trip and the airfare was $325(from PIT) for this year. Don't know if we'll go unless the rates drop.
We had no problems either way flying. The airport was almost deserted on Christmas day in the afternoon. We flew out on NYD in the evening and it was more crowded, but nothing too crazy.

I so understand your situation with airfare...I keep holding my breath and praying the fares go down. We are planning on flying out Christmas morning...the cheapest of all the days! Last year I stalked airfare throughout December and airfare on SW was about $250 roundtrip...this year right now their flights are $250 one way! So I am looking at the non-discount airlines and finding them cheaper or just about the same with better flight schedules :confused3!!! Yesterday I found roundtrip for just a little over $400...getting closer! I am trying to hold off until September when airfares traditionally cheaper for the trip at 3 months out.

I did not have time to update. Grandmother went into the hospital this weekend. I will get to it soon.

Hope everything is OK with your grandmother! :flower3:

This is going to be our first time at WDW during Christmas week (I'm a little scared, LOL!). We are staying offsite in Celebration (Baymont) from 12/24 - 12/28/11.
