December 2008 Code Watch

Is there any way to get a code, or is it just luck and good fortune? We are planning on going December 23-28 (possibly 29) 2008, to celebrate our daughter's 5th birthday at MK (her actual birthday is December 25! So we figured this will make it totally special for her). Right now, plans are POR, but if there's a code, we'll either extend days or upgrade to a deluxe.

Also, if I book and then come across a code, can I apply it? (I think so, but I thought I'd ask just for verification)

I'm in!! We're scheduled for Dec 7-15 at Pop. It is DH's first trip with us so DD and I are extra excited. :yay:  :cool1: So far no pin code for me, but I'll check again soon I'm sure. Hopefully there will be a general code that will save me the frustration of contemplating a date change.

 all!

The pin codes that people are getting in emails or calling about are just luck of the draw. No one quite knows how they happen. However, you can improve your chances by being registered on the Disney site and requesting a planning DVD. Get your name, address and email into their system somehow if you haven't already.

If a code does come up, you can apply it to your reservation as long as there is availablity. If you have a room-only and the code is room-only, then they will just adjust your reservation. If you have a package and the code is room-only or vice versa, then you will have to rebook with a new deposit and cancel the original ressie. Hope that helps!

I've booked our room at the Poly for Dec 1-12, used AAA and got rate of $289/n. Looking forward to codes to help bring it down a bit more.....

I am so happy ended up getting a code. Backed out of CL and got 2 standard rooms at Beach Club with deluxe dining for 4 ... for 8 thru 15th. 8 day park hoppers for 6300.00 :D. (We got the 40% off code)

Yup! The pin code that is being discussed on the codes board covers dates through mid-Dec 2008. Now if only I could get one of those. :scratchin

......but I want a code......

I use my Disney Visa regularly, have more than fulfilled my Disney Movie Club obligation, registered at WDWdotcom, asked for video
(heck even asked for the DVC info)and paid for 2 families worth of WDW packages in Dec 2006....what more can they want? A kidney? My 1st born?

Its frustrating to know that WDW is able to give a better rate based on some unknown criteria, but if they can soak me for a couple more dollars they will.

Don't get me wrong, not begrudging anyone the bargain they have been given, just having a momentary pity-party for myself.:sad2: I'll feel better tomorrow.

how did you get the code?:confused3

Most of the codes are being received via postcard or email. What triggers those mailings is unknown. Could be requesting a planning video, could be having had a trip recently, or requesting pricing or just totally random?!?! :confused3

However, there are some people who have not gotten the mailings due to old addresses or whatever. They are finding out about the code by calling Disney reservations and asking. They can look via your phone number or email or whatever info it is that they may have on file about you.

I just called to see if I have a PIN code, and I do, but apparently it's not active yet, so the CM couldn't tell me what it was for. He said it expires May 21 (must book by that date, not travel by that date) and so would probably be active Feb 21. He also said that there was a good chance I'd be able to use it in December as long as we travelled before Dec 15 or so. Which won't help us, as we're planning to be there a bit later than that, but you never know! Maybe AAA will come through.

I'm confused.....You can just call and ask if you are entitled to a code just by giving them your name??
Please explain

I told them the truth - I'd accidentally deleted an e-mail without reading it, and wondered if it had contained a code. Of course, you could tell them that, even if it's not true. :cool1: But yes, all you do is call and ask if there is a PIN code in your name. They won't give you one for calling, but if you have one and don't know about it, this is an easy way to find out. It also puts you in the system so perhaps you'll get one in the future.

And then they just give you the code number to use for your ressie?
Ingenious

Awww I think I might just give them a call and see if there is a code attached to my name. Thanks for the advice guys!! :cool1:

this is interesting, i have my name in disney a lot, although since we are just planning i ususally delete emails from them so i don't get tempted, but we are wanting to go this year...soooooooo maybe I need to call just to see!!! do I just call the disney reservation line?

Yes. Just call the regular number and ask the CM. If you get someone that isn't sure what they're doing, etc. Just hang up and call back. I called to check because I've had several emails and addresses in the last couple of years. So, I wanted to make sure an offer hadn't gone to an old version. No luck yet though. :(
