Well... I think I finally talked myself into going Deluxe because of value season. However, I've never been to either one of these resorts so I don't know which one to pick. I will be traveling with DH, DD7, DD2 and DMom (who will be in a seperate room). Can anyone give me suggestions...in other words...tell me which one to pick?! (BTW...if I had my choice, money aside, I'd be going to the GF!;) ) TIA

You can't go wrong with either. I've stayed at both the WL and AKL. AKL is my favorite between the two, for a number of reasons. Yes, the AKL is more remote than all the other resorts, but because of this they have dedicated bus transportation to and from that resort only. So many people say that AKL is so far away, but in my experience, even though WL was right next to everything, it took us forever to get anywhere. WL shares bus transportation with Fort Wilderness and Grand F. I spent more time on a bus when I stayed at the WL than when I stayed at the AKL. Second, AKL rooms are much nicer, the quality rating is in line with the Yacht, Boardwalk and Beach Club. WL rooms are older and in my opinion in need of renovation, all though size of rooms are the same. AKL views can't be beat, a savannah view is something so unique you can't experience anywhere else. I also think AKL food court is better. The theming of both resorts are very similar, they are both breathtaking in there own regard, but AKL still in my opinion beats the WL for atmosphere. Hope that helps.

I've visited both in December and WL has the BEST Christmas decorations!!! There's a huge tree and add that to the fireplace and the wooden rocking chairs - you can't beat it.

Also the location, especially for MK is better than AKL. You really need that when travelling with young children who nap during the day.

JMHO!!! :teeth:

Thanks for the responses....but I'm still so confused! I wish I could make up my mind! We are RVers and so I thought going to AKL would be different since WL seems more like the camping atmosphere to me. But then again, I didn't think I would ever be interested in the African theme (I'm actually more of a tropical person) plus I too thought it was "way out there".... but roozlilone you have a good point on that issue! I just don't know!!!!! I hear so many good things about each resort that I'm sure I won't regret either decision. Anyway...thanks for trying to help! But I think I'm helpless!:D

We're planning to stay at the WL in Dec 2005 because it's the next on our list of resorts we want to try, plus I've read that it's one of the best for Christmas decorations! We're staying at AKL in Feb. though, so we don't have to choose between them. ;) You really can't go wrong!

We are planning our first trip to the WL this Feb. I picked it for ease of transportation to MK. I have been told by many that the WL transportation was fine. We love to take the boat. We also will be renting a car so going other places will not be a big deal. My kids are young so we wanted easy. Last trip we visited the AKL and had the buffet. It was so so but I have heard the ofter restaurants are fantastic. The zero entry pool looks cool. Maybe when our kids are bigger we will give it a shot. I believe your situation is win, win. Have fun planning.

Since, from what I've heard, the rooms are the same size at AKL and WL, I would defenitely pick WL.::yes::

We were really worried about chosing the WL because we are from the NW and we didn't want to feel like we stayed home... But the place is GORGEOUS and we were so glad we went! It won't be like camping at all. Fort Wilderness would, but not WL.

Good Luck deciding!

We are trying AKL in Nov. for DD's 5th b-day and WL in Dec. for a short Christmas trip. We've never stayed at either so we will be happy to pass along our reviews when we return.

Based on the boards, it sounds like you can't go wrong with either choice! Have fun planning!

Well, you kinda describe me to a tee, also. I really didn't think I would like the African theme, either. Not my thing. But, it's hard to describe, the atmosphere at the AKL is incredible. And nothing like camping! The rooms are beautiful, very unique. And it was nice being able to get on the bus and go straight to our hotel. But either way, they are both great resorts, and don't worry, neither of them are anything like camping! Trust me, as a child my family stayed at the Fort Wilderness Campground every year! Both resorts will spoil you. Have fun.:sunny:
