December 12 - 19, 2009 Western Magic

In keeping with previous posts.... in one week, I'll be roaming around Epcot right after attending the Candlelight Processional, looking for snacks before viewing the most bestest fireworks in the world, Illuminations. :thumbsup2 (And hoping I'm not coughing up a lung doing it.) :rolleyes1

We will have just landed in Orlando this time next week! WOW, the time is really caving in on me, I have sooo much to do. I have finished Christmas shopping at least, just have to get a few wrapped and I have that out of the way completely.

We don't even have our Christmas tree up yet... I usually do it the weekend of American Thanksgiving but I was away. Now...I'm not sure when we'll get it up... :confused3

putting my kids to bed and hopefully the bags in the car for the trip to the airport the next morning...

I just booked today. Can't wait to go. Flying down 12/11 then taking DCL transfers from the airport on the 12th. Seeing the weather is calling for some snow tomorrow, I'm glad to be going somewhere warm.

Welcome Mickeymom, if you're interested, we have a group meet planned for 3:00 pm in the promenade lounge on Saturday. Also, if you go back through the thread, we have rubber bracelets available.

I'm located about 35 miles from the port and the weather here is...weird to say the least! Yesterday (Thursday) it was a sunny, hot 84 degree day. Today it is raining (the weatherman was actually right! 100% chance of rain! :rolleyes1) and it is COLD, 54 degrees!! Brrrrr to this Floridian! Rain will continue here until Friday. Luckily though, the weather will be improving for our sailing. Friday there will be sunshine and a high of 69. I'll let you know about Sat & Sun when I get the update!

Did anyone else watch the Disney special tonight? Now I am really pumped to see Princess & The Frog! :woohoo:

Guess where this popular game show takes place?

Just one week from now we will be eating breakfast in Orlando waiting for the limo to come and get us:)

Is anyone starting to have the dreams where you forget stuff... like your passport... or a swimsuit?:eek:

We're in Apopka; where are you?

I confess, I enjoyed yesterday's blustery, cold, rainy weather! I'm from GA, and I miss the seasons. Unrelenting warmth actually doesn't agree with me! :rotfl2: However, I sure hope it returns to regional sameness before next Saturday!

What special did I miss?
:confused3

"Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, May I have your attention please?" In exactly one week, we should be hearing the announcement of the family of the day and begin boarding the beautiful Disney Magic.

Oh yeah, maybe I ought to finish packing!

Those are quite some stories! How many sailings of DCL have you been on?

My count says 22, but my listing on the CC site doesn't have quite that many. It claims we went for 2 years without a cruise (no way!) I was greatly relieved to hear from MJ (mmouse board moderator) that they had failed to list a couple of her cruises too. We did 2 cruises on other lines also, before DCL existed.

Until 2009, we had never sailed on the Wonder. I love the crew on the Wonder, but the Magic is still "my" ship! Actually, many of our friends from the Magic are now working on the Wonder--one of my favorites is a man we knew when he was an assistant server on the Magic. He's been promoted thru the ranks, and is now the dining manager on the Wonder.

Yes, we were on the maiden voyage....we were on board when the teen jumped overboard in St. Thomas (that area of deck 4 is now walled off so guests can't get to the area he used....the captain was NOT amused!) Most of the sailings have been completely uneventful, but there are those that we will LONG remember--like the one where the teen threw a chair overboard.

Fun moments---when we boarded after not sailing for a year and from across the lobby a voice yells "Koren, you're back!" It was Jerrica, one of the teen counselors from our previous cruise. I could not believe that she remembered my DD's name. When "Rona Rivers" asked DD if this was our first cruise. DD replied that it was our 13th, and we HAD to sail because it was my 50th birthday. The cruise director sent the concierge goodies to our cabin for the rest of the cruise! These are cookies, chocolate strawberries, etc. that people in the suites get each afternoon.

FE - kids - Done!
FE - adults - Done!

I was messing around searching, and found this: thought this was interesting.

My daughter had vomited on Sunday Apr 19, 2009 due to a common cold. At the time of boarding, which was Apr 22, 2009 I was asked if any one in your family had vomited in past three days, I answered yes to it. We explained to the medical rep on board that our daughter is fine. She hasn't vomited in last 48 hours. She does not have stomach flu or any other disease that is contagious.

DCL is extremely cautious regarding ANY vomiting or diarrhea reported to them. Their main issue is to avoid infecting a ship full of passengers. The reason is that they do not want to have to report an outbreak of the Novovirus or any other GI illness; other cruise lines have hit reporting levels, DCL never has. The ship must report to the US health authorities if 3% of the ship's population becomes ill. In US schools, reporting is not required until 10% of the population is absent.

A few comments. The "common cold" does not cause vomiting. One can vomit due to mucous in the throat, coughing, etc. but the "common cold" is a rhinovirus which does not cause vomiting. Bottom line, this poster does not know why the DD vomited. DCL can deny boarding for any reason. The mother could have demanded that the child be seen by the ship's doctor, but the result would have been the same. Their policy is to deny boarding to anyone they suspect may be ill at embarkation. When I was boarding with 5 teens, I threatened them within an inch of their lives if anyone joked around about illnesses telling them that it could mean no cruising. Why would then joke around? For the same reason they tell the Customs inspector that they have a pet bird in their suitcase--just plain nuisance value! "But mom, he KNEW we were joking."

Oh, I believe they were justified, especially with H1N1 issues at large. I haven't cruised tons, but enough, I haven't had that question asked of me.

Just found it interesting. I don't think they would even ask if it wasn't necessary.

It's quiet on here tonight - everyone must be getting ready. I'm trying to finish up some packing as well as update my GPS.

LOL...I know, I keep checking and thinking the same thing, that I should be doing what everyone else is doing. DH completely packed, I'm close, and after church tomorrow, I'm done.

That of course excludes DS at college, I'm sure he'll have all his dirty laundry to do Thursday night. :thumbsup2
