December 12 - 19, 2009 Western Magic

Today I received two letters from DCL. One for this cruise, and one for our Jan 10th cruise. Both were letters telling me when I could start booking Palo, excursions, etc., and when our actual cruise date is. I didn't find anything useful in either letter, especially since both booking dates had long passed (Sept & Oct), and it seems they should have really saved their money and paper. I guess there may have been a use for someone who didn't do anything online, but I sure don't see it.

Guess what this is and where:

Ok, I've been doing my best to read up on the threads. I finally figured out what an FE is. Now just have some questions:

Who all takes part in the FE thing? Is this for certain people only?

What are some ideas for FE gifts? My daughter and I want to take part and not be left out of anything onboard.

Do I need to make advance reservations for my daughter to take part in the kids club? Once again, I don't want us to be left out of anything.

Thanks, all!

Hi, Lowes,

Welcome! Looking forward to seeing you on the cruise!

I'm new here, too, and figuring it all out. The fish extender thing is something that I think was created by and exists on this board, but not really anywhere else. All of my friends who have been on Disney cruises (and there are several) have never heard of it, and have NO idea what I'm talking about. There are only about 16 staterooms participating out of the hundreds of staterooms on the boat.

Having said that, I think the reason no one answered your fish extender question is because the list of FE participants was open to anyone, but officially closed on November 15, so that folks could plan and buy their items to drop at other rooms. People on this thread are super nice, and they don't like to say no, I think. I may be putting words in their mouths, tho.

I'm a complete newbie and have never done this before. I truly believe if you don't participate in FEs, your kids will not be missing anything, and will not know the difference. My friends on other cruises never even noticed the existence of FEs.

As for the kids clubs, you don't preregister for any events, just register them for the club itself on the page where you fill out the forms. They can pick and choose their events on the cruise, I think. I don't get the impression that any of them "fill up".

I hope this helps. Looking forward to a fantabulous week!

Orlando36 - Thanks for the answers! This helps a lot!! I was afraid we were out of the loop on something and would be left out of a lot. Booking this trip at the last minute was a very out-of-character thing for a planner like me! I know my daughter and I will have a wonderful time!
How old are your children? My daughter will be turning 11 while we are on the cruise. Should be a lot of fun!

As for the FE exchange being closed, I know we did add someone elses name on the list in case some of us have "extras" with us... I will for sure, let me know if you are interested... :)

On our first Disney Cruise (a 4 night to the Bahamas) we didn't know anything about FE's and didn't even see any... we survived :).

Once your child is registered for the club, you can sign them in and out whenever you want (or they can sign themselves in/out) depending on age. I know we looked at the daily schedule and decided what the kids wanted to do and went with that... On our second cruise with them on Princess - they wanted to spend almost all the time in the clubs... I remember going to check on them and getting eye rolls and head nods for us to back away slowly ;).

Each night you will get a schedule (sorry can't remember what Disney calls them) on your bed with the turndown service ( you can also pick up extras by the guest service desk). I would read through and see what looked good for us as a family, then suggest ideas around that to the kids of what was happening in the clubs. Do note, they will feed the kids if they are in during a meal, and you can not sign them in or out while they are moving from one area to another on the ship.

Any other questions?

I would love to add you to the FE exchange list but I need some of the other participants to step up and see if they can or not. I have extra and can make another gift bag for your cabin but I cant speak for the others. I dont want to make someone uncomfortable or put them on the spot. We added another family after the closing date with the understanding that not eveyone might gift them because others may be out of gift bags if they have already dione their shopping and preparations.
What would you like?
Send me your email by private message and I will add you to the off site so you can view the FE exchange database.

The theatre on deck 5? (Buena Vista theatre?)

I'm guessing here. My other guess would be the doors in the lobbly leading to the gangway, but the carpet looks wrong.

I am in BIG trouble now I thought it was the door to one of the kids club but now I am not certain....LOL

I will have some extra things, but not the full set. I would be happy to include the Lowes with a few trinkets, if they opt to participate.

There are many girls in that age group on this cruise. We are having at meet at 3PM at the Promenade on embarkation day if you would like to come. We will be updating the FE room numbers at that time if you choose to participate.

I have some little things but not a full set either. I would be happy to do what I can but some of my things were ordered so I'm limited.

The Oceaneer Club does have an Octopus as a mascot, but the wood next to the doors just doesn't look right to me. And I don't remember the doors being so solid looking, but then again I don't know that I ever saw them closed either.

The little latch like door knob makes me think it's not a door that gets opened much, and the little red warning sign above the handle made me think it was something more.

I looked on the DCL website, and there is an octopus like that on the door to the Oceaneer Club. However, the rest of the layout doesn't match (wood to right of door), so either there is a difference between the two ships, or it's another door on the 5th floor.

Just getting my FE stuff organized... Scooby.. I see you have 2 cabins.. are the two adults separate families or a couple? I am doing 1 gift per adult family group and then the kids separately... as opposed to cabin groupings?

I can add the5lowes to my list as well. No problem at all. Just put them on the yahoo database like you did with the last family.
