December 11,2016 Disney Magic Eastern Caribbean

My family will be on this cruise. My parents and my sister and brother-in-law too. I have been browsing excursions all day today! I'm excited already :)
(we all have passports, this is our fifth Disney cruise-since this is the recent chatter, I thought I'd chime in.)

Awesome!!! I've been trying to find things to do as well! I would like to do just Coral World in St. Thomas without the scenic tour or butterfly tour and in Tortola I was looking at just going to the closes beach...not sure if these would be better to do with DCL or on my own.

Keep me posted on your progress!

We are super excited in our house...this is the boys first cruise, many trips to Disney, but first time on the big boat!

I am doing a lot of research on activities as well. I know that whatever we do it will be done on our own. One of the reasons we chose the Eastern over the Western itinerary is because the ports are so much safer.

I'm thinking one pure beach day and one island tour day.

Hey y'all!!! Booked this cruise when we were on the Dream in December. Loved the Very MerryTime cruises!!!

My husband and I bringing our 23 year old and 19 year old daughters this time so they can experience all things Christmas with DCL!

Glad to be sailing with y'all!

We will also be cruising! It will be me, my dh, and my 6 year old son. We will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary on the 14th (Dec.) which is why we chose this sailing. This will be our 7th Disney cruise. I can't wait!

We will be on this sailing in two adjoining staterooms. Myself and DH and our almost 4 yo DD and 1.5 yo DD with grandma and grandpa along as well.
It is a first Disney cruise (but not a first cruise) for the adults and a first cruise for the kiddos.
We're both excited and terrified of going from travelling on a cruise as a couple to as a family. However, the girls did AWESOME on our first trip to Disney World this past October.

Looking forward to getting involved and interested in participating in the FE.

My family and I will be on this cruise, our 3rd. We have not heard of fish extenders until now, we have 2 daughters 20 and 17 but would still love to swap with others any age. Sounds like fun and we are kids at heart. Can someone advise me on how this works and how we get it started?

My family will also be on this cruise! We are so excited! This will be our first time using fish extenders and we are really wanting to join the fish extender family! We have 2 daughters one is 20 and the other is 17. I was wondering if someone would let me know how this works and if they would like to trade? We are so excited and we can't wait to join the family!

WHAT IS A FISH EXTENDER? (FE)
Outside your room onboard is a message holder, in most cases it's shaped like a fish:fish holder wonder 2012 1408 100_7536.JPG

The fish is there for Disney to place important communications to you such as excursion tickets and notes from the Cruise staff. It is like a mailbox for your room. A Fish Extender (FE) it is something that you hang off the fish. By hanging the Fish Extender off of the fish, the Cast Members can still use it for its original purpose.THIS IS NOT A ONE ON ONE EXCHANGE, YOU ARE PART OF A GROUP. All the people in the exchange buy or make little items and place them in each other's fish extenders. It is great fun to come back and check the items you have received.

Once a cruise meet thread is up and running, someone in the group will (should?) step up and say "I'll maintain the Fish Extender exchange list". That person is the center point for all those who want to participate in the exchange. The list can be as simple as DISnames/room number/number of guests or as involved as full names/room number/ages of guests/like & dislikes/allergies/favorite characters/whatever is deemed necessary to know assemble the gifts.

Then each room on the FE list (note this will not be everyone on the Cruise Meet thread for your specific cruise), makes a Fish Extender holder. This is basically an organizer-type hanging bag with separate pockets for each person in the room:door magnets 4 wonder oct 2011 256 100_3589 1500.jpg

The most common Fish Extenders are ones that have a pocket for each person in that stateroom. Some are very fancy, some are very plain. Some are store bought, some are homemade. Search "Disney fish extender" and you will get options that range in price. You should make sure your Fish Extender is between 8" & 12"" wide. Otherwise it starts to get in the way of your stateroom door. It should not exceed 5 feet; otherwise it will hit the floor. If you are creating your own it is suggested you make the pockets a little deeper than normal too. It will keep items from falling out and keep curious hands from reaching in (average depth is 5-6 inches)but 8-11 is a better way to go if you are making it yourself

They also make up gifts (either individual gifts or room gifts - whatever is decided by your group) to be delivered during the cruise).

One note about the gifts, some groups set up specific delivery dates, and specify "each person gets a gift" or "only one gift per room" or (even) maximum/minimum price ranges for gifts. Other groups just say "whatever", so people can choose what/how many gifts to give. Some give individual gifts, others only one gift per room, while others might do one for the adults and separate gifts for kids. Or only gift the kids.

HOW MANY CABINS WILL BE IN MY FE GROUP and WHO PARTICIPATES???
That depends on your cruise meet group. They range in average from 10-15 sometimes even 25 and up. Most do the smaller groups with the option to join more than one. It makes it more manageable.

This is typically a whole cabin event. You usually may not just sign up the kids. There are some cruise meet groups that have Adult Only groups. But not Kids only.

If you are signing up more than one cabin to participate, you should not combine them. It’s not fair for people to make items for 2 cabins and receive from 1 of them. They should be counted as 2 separate cabins.

DO I HAVE TO BUY FOR EVERYONE? DO I NEED TO GIVE PER CABIN?
Sort of…You have to do something for EVERY CABIN PARTICIPATING, You choose whether its adult gifts or kids gifts or cabin gifts or a combination.YOU CAN NOT LEAVE A CABIN OUT IF THEY HAVE SIGNED UP. At the very least, 1 cabin gift, per cabin. Some do a cabin gift, and then do a few items for the kids. Some do individual for each member of the cabin. Some people are crafty and make gifts, and some are store bought. Some gifts are to be used on board and some are to be used at home.

WHEN LEAVING A GIFT, DO WE IDENTIFY WHO IT IS FROM?
Some people do put some kind of to/from tag on their items. Most want to know who it came from. Some do it because they don't want people to think they got shorted a gift or assumed theft of an item. Others go with the original intent and deliver anonymous gifts.

There's apparently no Fish Extender group here on DISboards for this cruise. There may be FE groups on other sites, but they are not DISboards connected, and links or search directions to those are not allowed.

Only if someone here on DISboards steps up and says "I'll maintain the list" will there be a FE group here. Otherwise - not.

This will be our first Disney cruise....3 families with 2 girls age 7, 1 boy age 6 and a girl she 3. So excited. Just requested access to the FB page. Has someone started a fish extender exchange on the FB page yet?

How do I become a member of this group? My nephew Jeremiah (Age 5) and myself (Age 28) are booked on this cruise :). We would both like to participate in the fish extended, if there is a group we would love to join. Last year we made custom tumblers with everyone's name on the cups, got everyone coloring books, crayons, and each cup had stuff from party city inside. We loved coming to the room every night and finding goodies :) now that I know ahead of time we will do something unique. Not quite sure about cups again (they were very bulky & took up a whole entire suit case. We will be flying to Miami from Houston TX and I don't want to bring to many suit cases but we will still do something fun & good! I have followed the thread but I haven't been able to be added to the group. Thank you, Lacy Mayen
