Recap: Who's traveling?

Monica (me) – Disney lover, frequent traveler, Disneyland AP holder, 2nd trip to WDW
Trevoy (my 9yr old son) – Disney lover in the making, frequent traveler because Mom drags him around, Disneyland AP holder, 2nd trip to WDW
Tameka (friend) – frequent travel partner, can’t understand my obsession with Disney, 2nd trip to WDW although first trip was only 1 day at MK
Dejante (DJ) (friend’s 8yr old Godson) – first time traveler (never been on a plane, never been in a rental car, never stayed in a hotel, you get the picture), first visit to any Disney theme park

Day 6 – Magic Kingdom and departure

We slept in slightly, but not by much. After the bags were packed and loaded in the car, we headed over to the buses to go to Magic Kingdom. Once in the park we boarded the train and rode it to Toontown. We walked through Mickey’s and Minnie’s houses, but didn’t visit with Mickey. The line was too long already. We didn’t stay long in Toontown since we had to start heading over to the Crystal Palace for breakfast.

Along the way, Trevoy and I stopped to ride Peter Pan since I hadn’t gotten to ride it yet on this trip. DJ and Tameka did some souvenir shopping while they waited for us. We then went to Tinkerbell’s Treasures so I could show the boy’s Tink’s box where she sleeps. As I was pointing it out, I noticed that the wand and a certificate were still sitting there. Could it be that no one had woken her up yet? It was already 10:15. As soon as I asked if I could wake her up, DJ asked too. Well I got that look from the CM, you know, come on grown up, lets let the kids have the fun. I really did not want to let him wake her. Tinkerbell was my ‘thing’ this trip. I was always pin trading for Tink and checking out all the Tink merchandise. DJ didn’t even know who she was and could barely recognize her. But I gave in and said he could do it. So the CM says, “Come on Princess, let’s wake up Tinkerbell.” He’s not a princess, I’m screaming in my head. If she had known he was a boy, maybe she would have let me do it. Ok, so I do still have some bitterness over this. Of all the stuff I gave up over this trip, this was the one thing I really wanted to do for me.

Ok, so some deep breaths and I say we have to go. Time to go eat. Maybe some good food will settle me down. We had to wait a few minutes for our table to be ready, but not long. We had 10:30 PS, the last available breakfast seating. It was great. Pooh, Tigger and Eeyore visited us at our table and Piglet was available to visit in the middle of the restaurant. As we were finishing up, there were less and less people around. The characters were just wandering around and playing with everyone. Many times we had 2 or 3 characters talking to us at the same time. The highlight of this meal was at the end. We gathered all 4 characters for a group picture. The low point, DJ jumped in the picture and I wanted just me and Trevoy. Anyway, it still came out good.

After breakfast we spent some time picking up a few more souvenirs and treats to take home. Then it was time to leave. Back on the bus, picked up the car, and got on the road. Unfortunately we spent too much time shopping and barely made it to the airport. We barely were able to get boarding passes and when we got to the gate, we were the very last people they let on the plane before the closed the doors. But we made it and were on our way home.

I know from experience that they like only little girls to wake tink. I was there last year and asked if my son could wake tink. I was told by the CM they like just the little girls to wake her. So the next kid to come in was a little girl so we told her about tink and she woke her.

i didn't know they had this 'wake tink' thing in there...i've seen her sparkle on the wall and all, but didn't know about this----details? thanks for sharing your trip!

If you are the first person in the shop to ask to wake her, then they'll let you. As someone else said, they usually want it to be a young girl, but I've heard reports of teens and boys (not those being mistaken for a girl) have been able to wake Tink. I've heard of people racing to the shop as soon as the park opens, but we lucked out as it was almost 10:30 when we were there.

The have you wave a wand, say Wake Up Tinkerbell 3 times and then you hear bells and a flash of light, then she starts flying around the store. You get a certificate with your name on it saying you participated in the magic and some stickers.

I didn't want to argue with the CM. We were the very first people in the store and so we were the first people to ask, and the CM would not let us, she insisted on a little girl. Next time I know better and will insist. Thanks.

I know this is kind of personal, but is his godmother going to speak with his mom (or dad) about cutting that boy's hair? It's one thing to have a fashionable long braid hairstyle if you're a grown man (or teen boy) who's obviously masculine. I don't see the benefit to the child of an elaborate hairstyle that constantly puts him in the position of people thinking he's a girl. It obviously hurts him deeply -- why put him through it for a HAIRstyle?

Yes, waking Tink is a kid thing. I'm glad DJ got to do it, even if they thought he was a girl. Great trip! Thanks for sharing!

Apparently the girl mistake happens a lot at home too. I don't know if DJ has ever asked to have his haircut. But Tameka has told me that she has asked to have it cut, and unfortunately DJ's mom doesn't want to.

Enjoyed your report - I don't know but if I was you I would have talked to your friend about DJ, seems like you really wanted a little bit of one on one with your son. Hope it didn't ruin anything.

And I would have been ticked off if
1 - they wouldn't let me wake up tink - since when is Disney just for kids?
and
2 - they wouldn't let a boy do it! are you serious?

thanks for posting
