Dec 5, 2009 -- now traveling to Tortola

This does not apply to any of the rest of you, but I have to post anyway because I am so darned proud of myself :snooty: :rotfl2:

We have been trying to figure out the best way to egt to and from the Frankfurt airport. When Dave flies I usually drop him at the train station (train goes right into the airport) or drive him down. But the train fare for all four of us would be close to 250 Euro round trip--and with no ride to the station we would have to haul all our luggage on the trams (no big deal for a small trip with one rolling bag each, but a hassle with big rolling duffles and other cruise luggage). Parking at the airport would be about the same for 15 days. We have asked about a dozen Germans (mostly Dave's co workers but also a friend, the neighbors, etc.) if there is some sort of less expensive long term parking near the airport and been told by everyone that no such thing exists. HA they were all wrong! I found it on the FRA website (in English even so I know i am reading it right). There is long term parking, it is run by the airport, they have shuttles to the terminal every 10 minutes AND it will only cost 64 Euro for the 15 days:woohoo:

Yes, I have such a pathetic life that I consider finding this information to be a highlight of my week (especially this week:rolleyes:):upsidedow

:dancer: That's great one less thing for you to worry about and to save money too even better :yay:

How is your little guy feeling??????
L'il Speedy is already almost up to 'Speed' again. Just a 24 hour bug, not H1N1. Unfortunately, it's Mommy's turn now but she's getting rest. As usual, I'll take the kiddies to school etc., and I'm in the home office today so I'll be a bit of a nurse as well :)

Don't say that Hadley!:confused3 It's a life that has it's ups and downs, but Christine and I grew up with our moms at home and that's what I'm working hard at doing too for our family. While we're not home schooling, the kids have mom and sometimes me around and we're more in touch with the kids. I'm sure you're happy to be home when the kids need you. Like with Jimmy Stewart, 'It's a Wonderful Life!' (not pathetic):cool1::banana::cheer2::littleangel:

Thanks beachbratt--with teh exchange rate the money we save is enough to pay for the excursion we want to take at Tortalo (if we decide it is worth getting up early for:rolleyes1)

I am happy to hear it is just a 24 hour bug and hope that is all it is (or less) for Christine as well. Please send my well wishes along to your bride:hug:

No worries--I love my life and it does not really seem pathetic to me. I just know that to an outsider getting all excited over things like figuring out airport parking must seem pretty silly.

The ysent Marika home with what I thought was a persription for antibiotics for the sinus infection that I was supposed to fill if she did not get over the extreme dizzyness and headache by Wednesday. Took it in to the pharmacy and they said it was instructions to call for the perscription if not better by Wednesday--but the office is closed Wednesdays! So, I just got through this morning and have been told to wait 20 minutes for tehm to make the call and then go to the pharmacy--which is right around the corner. She is more dizzy by the minute, and the headache is awful--but the other stuff is better. Sore throat better, cough lessening, no more fever and even hungry for soup. mashed potatoes, yogurt, etc.)

Man, that sounds rough. I hope this new prescription knocks out the rest of Marika's symptoms. Poor thing!

I've been wanting to tell you that we started the 3rd Mysterious Benedict Society, and it's great so far. I would be happy to bring a copy to the cruise for Marika if you'd like.

Has anyone ever made magnets by printing and laminating, then using sticker magnets to put them on the door? It would be cheaper (I have a laminator) but don't want stuff sliding off of the door. I guess if I use enough magnets it would stick.

Anyone gone the route? I can't find the magnet paper lately and if I need to order it, I need to get right on it.

On a different note, what do you guys think of me running off our board logo, laminating, and sticking a magnet on it for all of us (so we can see where we all are)? Should we do it with the DIS name on it or just plain?? I really have more of these nametag inserts than I'll ever use.

Fluvanna:surfweb:

Have you tried Staples? I had trouble finding it in the store. That is where we have always gotten our magnet paper.

Thanks!

Glad to hear the little guy is feeling betting. Hope Christine is feeling better soon.

NOt silly at all! I'm still trying to decide what I want to do with airport parking. I have some ideas and like you, found some offsite long term parking that will work for us. We can park offsite for around $95 for the 17 days plus they provide a shuttle to/from the airport every 10-15 minutes and do curbside dropoff. If I park at the airport, it would be close to $150 and then I would still have to get me and the kids (and all of our luggage) from the parking garage to the airport. I still have the option of having one of the inlaws taking us to the airport but I'm afraid it would be too early for them and I don't want to have to depend on people that have a hard time being on time.

BTW, Tower, your suggestion of the group photo is great!

Hadley, I'm glad Marika is feeling better. I was just thinking--do you think she could be having a reaction to the cough medicine? I am allergic to codeine (found in some cough meds) and got very sick (dizzy, vomitted) on it the first time I had it. I also had to take my DH to the ER once because he was so dizzy he couldn't stand and they said it was an adverse reaction to sudafed he'd taken for sinus pressure. Not that that is what's happening in her case, but maybe you can try an alternate to rule it out?

Great job on finding out about your parking. I love the feeling of getting a good deal or finding something out that will save $.

I've got 2 friends on our street whose kids are home today with 103 and 104 temps. I'm really hoping if my kids are going to get it, they get it sooner than later. Our school district still isn't on the county schedule for our kids getting H1N1 vaccinations.

I have received magnets in the past as FE gifts with the sticker magnets on the back and they seem to work okay if they are small. On our 2nd cruise I made signs on scrapbook paper with stickers and other embellishments and put them in picture/magnet backed sleeves I found at AC Moore. I was able to later put them in our scrapbook. I have a cricut too that I love but I haven't had the time lately to get much scrapbooking done. I have digital programs and want to print a couple books out of past cruises but I keep getting further and further behind.

I'm not sure about the DVC fees myself but would be interested in knowing as we are using points to sail for the first time in Dec 2010.

Tower, I'm glad your son is feeling better.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone! :goodvibes

Since I am so late here, is there a place where all the info about meets and introductions are posted? If I try to catch up on 100 pages...I might miss the boat!

Sally

Hey, I was gonna use my Cricut too! (It was my Christmas present from DH and DD last year). Have you seen the wreath made out of mickey heads?? It looks pretty easy and fun.

fluvanna

Do you have a copy of the wreath made out of the Mickey heads you could post or PM me. I can not seem to locate my picture.
Thanks!

Also thank you for making the cruise logo signs for our doors. It was on my to do list.

Hi Sally and welcome. If you look on the bottom of Hadley's (NHDisneylover) signature, she has a page number with a "roll call" about who is coming along that is on our cruise meets thread.

I think (please correct me if I'm wrong) we are going to try to meet up at breakfast Sunday morning in Lumiere's around 9AM.

Missed Fluvanna's post until I say Catwoman's response! But no, I have not seen the Mickey wreath but it sounds really cute! FLuvanna, where did you find the instructions? I would love to make it!

Amy--I just read this to Marika and she smiled for the first time all week! We would love to take you up on that offer (either a loaner she can read and return at the end of the week--she'll go through 3-5 novels on the cruise) or we can pay you for one to keep. Whatever you prefer. She says to tell you "thank you to the power of google":rotfl2:

I'm afraid it would be too early for them and I don't want to have to depend on people that have a hard time being on time.
I don't blame you for that at all:thumbsup2 Good luck making up your mind.

Thanks for the information:goodvibes Those reactions you have both had sound scary:eek: She was actually pretty dissy all along but the dizzyness increased along with the headache--and she did not start teh cough meds until Tuesday afternoon. The antibiotics seems to be helping--her head feels better and she is now fine when lying down and manageable walking (meaning she can walk slowly without falling down:rolleyes:). She did have codeine once and never again:scared1: She is one of those people who get keyed up with codeine. Very keyed up. Standing on counters jumping up and down while crying she is scared because she cannot stop keyed up.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone! :goodvibes

Hi Sally--I may have missed welcoming you--sorry I have been sleep deprived and in a bit of a fog:flower3: Welcome! The roll call is at the link in my signature. Please PM me your DISname, first names in party, ages of kids (if any) and dining time so I can add you.

I could add the meets to that page if people want me to. What does everyone think? I a mtrying to remember them all:
Lanyards from Amy in the terminal starting around 11:00
Lanyrads from me in Promenade lounge from 3:00 until safety drill
Photo and group breakfast at Lumieres Sunday morning at 9:00 (do I have that time right?)
I can also post the message doors if we know who they are.
That way we will have everything in one place.

I found the thread and picture:

Hi Again Sally,
Basically, and I know I will be corrected if I'm wrong, but we're generally having an informal meet on the Sunday at breakfast. We're meeting at Lumiere's at around 9:00AM before we all go on to our things on the ship. We'll have a few group shots done and email them out to everyone. It'll be fun!
Some people have arranged to share tables with each other, others, thanks to some really good arranging by special members here:flower3::lovestruc:worship:, are sitting in the same general area as others on this thread. Just the same, be sure to introduce yourself and it will be great.

Unfortunately, we're out of lanyards for the newer members of this board, but I think Fluvanna is printing out extras (or is it Amy?) for others to simply put on lanyards/sleeves of their own.:)

Looking forward to meeting you!

Sounds Great Hadley!
I already posted something to this effect without reading ahead at the time to your post. You have it all!:worship:

Also Hadley, you mentioned an excursion for Tortola you're thinking about getting up early for. Is that the Peter Island kayaking? We're reserved for 2 on that. They say kids 10 & up can go, but I'm hoping 8-year old DS Erik can go.

Okay--I will update the roll call adding Sally (and anyoen else who PMs me) and the meet up info later tonight (giving some time for more PMs--we want everybody!!!).

Yes Barry that is the excursion:goodvibes It would be fun to be together on it. Sadly, I can tell you DCL never budges on age requirenments for excursions (not even if the kids' birthday is that week):sad2: I have seen posts where peopel have been sucessful in contacting the companies that run excursions and booking the same thing at the same time privately (but how woud you get to the island?:confused3). Rio and Marika used to love to kayak in New Hampshire and always wanted to do one of the kayaking excursions but this is the first time we have sailed since Rio was old enough for one.

We are doing the Kayak, Hike and Snorkel in St. Thomas. We were limited with excursions as well since Brennan's 8 years old but that one starts at age 8. In Tortola we are doing the Beach/Forest excursion in the morning and the dolphin swim in the afternoon. We aren't doing anything in Castaway Cay but relaxing and enjoying the beach, maybe using the snorkel lagoon depending on the water temp and eating at Cookies BBQ!

Damn! Well, Christine doesn't really feel like it, nor will my mom so I may not be going either :(. Regardless, I will try, futile as it may be. Stranger things have happened :) I'm being optimistic here.
