Debt Dumpers - 2013

Congrats Ceemeys!

You'd better post pics of your new house once you move in.

I too check your ticker every day and was wondering when it was gonna move! LOL

Great job - you must be so excited!

Off topic but I had jury duty last year during my disney trip. I just told them I was going on vacation and they wrote down the dates that I would be gone and said no problem as long as I showed up to the rest of the dates.

I was suppose to do jury duty last April while we went to my dh convention in Orlando. I get to go along and I spend my days solo at WDW. I didn't want to miss going because his company pays for everything. I calld lastMarch and she said I could take Nov. or Dec. because she can never get anybody for those months. So I was going to book in Nov. for a long weekend to see the Osborne Lights and I got my summons again.

Your at 100% :cheer2: Way to go!!!

I haven't posted in a while but have been following the boards. You guys are all doing a fantastic job!! I'm still plugging away at dental work - have another appointment this Thursday. To drop another $1100 :sad1: Then I should only have November and December visits and I will be done!! Atleast till the next cavity :lmao: I plan on sitting down this week and redoing the budget, for the millionth time! Just to see where I will stand at the end of the year with my savings.

I checked your balance just this morning...Now this afternoon 100%. Yay!!!

 TOOT TOOT

I was so tired of the 12.7%

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Congratulations!!!!! :):):):)

Thanks all!!! I will definitely post a picture when it is all done. :thumbsup2

I didn't even realize I wasn't getting my board updates emailed to me. When I came to the board I was logged off (usually I stay signed into all my chat boards). Wonder if that's why? Do you stop getting updates if you sign out? I'd better resubscribe, just in case :)

Bad news on our front - JUST as we decided on a roof/ gutter color -- hubby got into a car accident :( Last Friday. On his birthday. Double :( :( Car is totaled. This is his third accident in 3 years, none his fault. The guy that hit him is 92 years old! And a priest. Geez, my grandma is 94 & I can't even IMAGINE her trying to drive!

And we still have to get the roof. It's past time, & we already put down a deposit. Double whammy!

I'm so sorry to hear about the accident, I hope he is okay! And I hope the driver's insurance takes care of your expenses

Anyone notice anything different?? :):cool1::cool1:
Congrats on your progress!!!!

I paid off our last CC today and now we can turn our attention 100% to getting rid of our HELOC (hoping to have it paid off in 12-18 months). Then my car loan (and I swear to god as much as I LOVE my car, I will never finance another car again).

The good news is the debt payment. The bad news is the reason why -- my H is absolutely miserable at his job and it's killing him. I can't stand to see him so stressed out. I know that our debt weighs on him -- we couldn't afford for him to quit even without a HELOC and car loan, but the pressure isn't helping matters. I hate that he feels trapped. So we are doing everything we can to lesson the pressure of that trap and buy him some breathing room. His current contract ends in May and there is no way he'll be able to renew at that time, so I have between now and May to prepare for his possible unemployment and hopefully find him a new job he can tolerate, if not love. It makes me so sad for him -- he just finished his PhD last year and worked so hard to get to this point, only to hate where it got him. And I absolutely LOVE my job, I just wish he could be even half as happy with his career as I am, he worked so hard to get here . . . :(

Hi all. I got my first paycheck today and am a little embarrassed to admit how excited I got that I will get this same amount of money twice a month, EVERY month. It's a typical freelancer's mindset that you just don't know when the next check/more work is coming. So, with the shutdown still on and DH running out of vacation time, I will be paying ahead on bills this week...the AAA renewal due in two weeks, setting aside a big chunk for the mortgage (he will be getting paid this week but then who knows), a chunk for the credit card to go toward the $285/month parking pass that I am now paying for. Feels good to know that I'll get paid again at the end of the month, and things will be OK even if DH misses a check or two. We are both stressed about the shutdown but it would have been so much worse if I was still freelancing. Once "everything gets settled" as DH says, we'll start our plans to pay more on the house, get the credit card paid down, etc. But right now, we just need to focus on the regular expenses until the government reopens.

I totally get it. My job is still new to me, but I really like it. DH is not happy in his and it makes me feel bad. But, there's not a lot you can do.

I've got ~$5,675 left on my car loan, and ~13,575 on my student loans.
That is over 18k total GONE since January (10 months!!!)

Still working towards the car as my priority... on track to have that paid off by this February! From there, building up an emergency fund and starting the home down payment journey.
The student loans I am leaving be (one of the three already has basically a double payment scheduled every month, so that one will be done sooner, and then I'll just snowball that into the last two).

Wow, I have been reading through some of the thread. You guys are doing awesome! We have been debt free since February, and it is AWESOME! We have been following Dave for a few years. We have FFEF now and are saving for a down payment for a house! I feel like this house will be such a reward for all of our hard work and sacrifice.

milwaukeemommy I hope your DH is okay!

ceemys :cool1: And you inspired me to make a ticker of my own!

Congrats!! I can only imagine how stressful having variable income can be, particularly when facing a shutdown like this -- I'm glad you have something consistent now, it is a really nice feeling to know the next paycheck is coming.

yeah, that's the hardest part for me. I feel compelled to fix things by nature, it's hard to know there is nothing I can do here, but you are right. All I can do is be supportive and keep focused on our goals to be debt free.

That is amazing!!! :cheer2: You should be so proud of yourself! At that rate, you'll be debt free in no time!

pryncess527 - YEA for paying off your last CC!! woot woot! I will save for cash for my next car also! :) :)

I'm so sorry about your husband's job. I used to work with a boss I absolutely hated! Couldn't change it since it was the military. Hugs. Glad y'all are looking ahead and have time to make preparations.

Eureka - You shouldn't be embarrassed! How cool is it that you have a consistent paycheck?! :) My mortgage guy told me that the government re-opened. Did your husband get a call back?

xCourxCorex - WTG on your paydown. That's amazing! Glad I can be an inspiration. Love your new ticker!!

OK so my news. Got off the call with my mortgage guy. The interest rate went down so to buy my interest rate down to 3.5 will only cost me 2,000 and not 3,000! I adjusted my ticker and now my down payment is at 110%. :cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1: I will continue to put money in to help me know what I have to spend on new furniture. This SO eases my mind and I think I might take my kids out to eat to celebrate. (with coupons of course) ;) They are starting the loan process tomorrow. As soon as I sign the paperwork and send it back. My credit score went up 54 points in one year! I had one thing to do and I did it. My mother put me on one of her cards 10 years ago! lol And I knew nothing about it. So I had her remove me. He seemed really joyful and so optimistic! Soon my ticker will change to reflect my car savings.

He said probably he will go back the day after fed workers go back. They (the agencies) have to start back first. So, hopefully Friday.

Awesome about your interest rate buy down!

Congrats on your financing going down! You have done an excellent job getting your credit score up and saving for your house!! You should be so proud of yourself!
I have a second interview lined up nov 2 with the mgmt position that opened up at my place. I have my fingers crossed that I get it. I will hopefully know right before thanksgiving. However, if I get it and the compensation package isn't what it should be, I will have to turn it down. Fingers crossed!!
As for vacation..... We have decided to do our mother/daughter vacation by taking our second cruise to Bermuda next year. We were going to go in April, because it would be $100 per person cheaper, but decided to hold off and are going next October so we will have more time to save up spending money!! Now, if I get that promotion the cruise may move up to April!
You guys are all doing a fantastic job!!

That's great news!!! You should be so proud of yourself for doing such a great job with both your credit score and saving up for that downpayment. I'm glad all your efforts are paying off -- literally!!!

He worked from home today, and is going back to the office tomorrow, yay :) Ended up taking 7 days of vacation time, don't know if he has any left anymore. But it could have been much worse.

Good luck! I hope you get that package! Is that a Disney cruise or one of the others? I've never been on a cruise at all.

That's awesome. I'm glad it wasn't worse. So they aren't paying him the back pay? That's just messed up. :(

I made my car payment today. I'm excited to say my balance is under $5k!!!! I definitely can have this paid off by next year!!! What a great feeling this is.
