Debt Dumpers - 2013

That's my problem once I think I will have extra money to pay a bill another bill comes in! Like my property tax bill that I just got last week...ugh!

Does this bill quarterly? For bills less frequent than monthly, I use an online savings acct like ING.com (now Capital One 360). I figure out how much I need to set aside monthly & just know I can't touch it.
Technically that's "bill money" not emergency funds. :goodvibes

Right now Cap one is offering a $50 bonus to open a checking acct. There's a $50 minimum to open. You must make at least 3 debit card purchases or person to person payments with this account in the 1st 45 days. On the 50th day the bonus should arrive.

Dh & I have a joint savings acct. with them but the promo for bonus checking may be individuals too so I opened one for dh also. So as to not spend frivilously to make our 6 debit card purchases, I bought grocery store gift cards.

I have been lurking and learning . I am doing so much better then I thought trying everything . I was a SPENDER but I am reformed , ok I am trying to reform .

This past Friday I paid off the tv I bought for our media room . Bought it in Jan. on the 6 mo no interest thing they had and I knew I needed to pay it off ASAP . The last 580.00 felt the best for some reason maybe because of you guys and me wanting to share that feeling you guys are getting from being debt free.

I also have my emergency fund up to 2700.00 : ) I THANK ALL OF YOU FOR THE HELP !

Congrats on getting soem of your CC's paid off and have fun in Disney! We miss it. :) Good luck on your freelance!

Always feels good to get something paid off....enjoy it no matter how small!:goodvibes

You can do it!

Great job!

:goodvibes:goodvibes

Hugs. Hope you are feeling better today. My 2004 car has been paid for about 4 years. I know a brake bill is coming soon within the next few months. I can hear the grinding when I brake. :(

Hugs. Being a military brat, I know how that feels.

Awesome job!!

I agree!!

My house payment balance is still the same, I don't get to put money into it until the 15th. I was going to put some money into it this paycheck, but my daughter turned 14 yesterday and I surprised her with 3 tickets to see Ed Sheeran (SUPER FAN SHE IS!). I couldn't afford the $140 per ticket with Taylor Swift so when I heard he is coming to town for our radio stations birthday blast, I bought 3 tickets for $170 on row 13. :) It's worth it. I am still ahead though. She and her cousins are going.

With spring break, family birthdays, and family gatherings, I ate out A LOT more than I budgeted for. But it about offset the money I put into my grocery budget. So almost even steven on those. 3 more birthdays coming this and next month. ugh. lol

Have a great debt control day everyone!!

Congrats on savings for the house. Every time I come onto this thread I check your ticker and think wow! It's really growing. Congrats!

Our income tax will be deposited this week, which will go onto the CC and $1000 into savings. The rest of the cc I will be transferring to the LOC as it's a much lower interest rate, then cancelling that CC.

Been putting an extra $50 or $100 here or there whenever I can. It just seems like something always comes up. Next pay we need two new tires. In June we've got my step daughter's College grad. Always something....
At least we are doing good with paying cash and not adding anything else to the CCs.

Our summer vacation plans are just camping in the area and lots of day trips to the beach, hiking, etc., so we should be able to dump a lot of debt and save up for the kids fall activities over the summer.

Everyone is doing great!

Update on parents- They've paid off so much in just a month. Only $500 left on the biggest card they owed. WOO HOO

Yep, I'm proud. And soon I hope to get them on board with starting a car fund.

Great job getting your parents on track!

You guys are all doing a great job, not only paying down your debt but also starting your savings!!

no one has posted for 3 days, hope everyone is staying on track.:thumbsup2

i am going to send in my last payment for my one sub-student loan today and am very happy to have paid it off.:cool1: i will slow down after this a bit since the next "extra" money i will get won't be until august. i will however roll that monthly payment towards another loan to keep my snowball going.

I just sent in my last mortgage payment!
What a load off of my shoulders- now I can save the money for taxes and insurance....:rotfl2:

That is great :thumbsup2 I know you must be thrilled!!! I certainly would be!

Everyone is doing a great job! I have been able to stay out of debt so far, which is a huge plus for me! I am definitely enjoying it, so much that I was going to plan a trip to Disney at Christmas as a reward, but I can't seem to part with spending the money to go to Disney :lmao: Who would've ever thought that would happen?

I am a freelancer so my salary is unpredictable both in amount and timing of the paychecks. We have ended up using the credit cards for a few things lately because of my sporadic pay schedule. (My DH gets paid every week though) Luckily, I have been pretty busy with work for the past 2-3 months and have multiple outstanding invoices that will be rolling in fairly consistently.

Got one of my larger checks this week, was able to pay the medical bills from my upper endoscopy in March, sent our nephew a check for his college graduation, paid a third of the credit card balance and tucked away $100 for our vacation savings. We are going to the beach next month, the beach house rental is paid for :) Also going to Disney and Universal at the end of the summer, so need to save toward that. Universal hotel and La Nouba tickets are paid already, still need to buy Univ. tickets and pay off our Disney package. Plus save for food since we are going OOP and have ADRs for every day.

Small steps, but felt good to cross some things off my list. We really don't have a lot of consumer debt and I want to keep it that way.

Congratulations! I am jealous. We have 14 years left on our house!

We paid off our credit card today!

:cheer2:

Feels so good to have a zero balance. Still a long way to go with other loans, but feels great to have one completely done.

The next goal will take awhile to reach since it is in the thousands, but it seems like an achievable goal now.

Thank you all so much for sharing your stories and support. It helps keep me accountable.

Way to go everyone!

We've hit some snags in the last few weeks - as I mentioned already car repairs - ugh - & I had forgotten that our homeowners insurance is due this month. Ouch! But the good news is that I got the interest rate lowered on 3 of my CC's so hopefully that will help get them paid off - & after many years at the same wage my hubby got a raise! Small, but better than nothing! He had to take a huge pay cut some years ago or else the company was going to move the business. So pay cut AND no raise for many years. We will take any raise we can get :)
