Hi Everyone...

I am in the process of planning another Disney World trip. As you can see we went this past December and it was wonderful!!

Here is my dilema...Due to my oldest starting high school, I do not know how the school is with taking kid's out for vacation. I would have loved to go again in December. I have 2 time frames booked....Nov. 21-29th and Dec. 5th -13th. For the Nov. time, it's Thanksgiving week :scared1: He would only miss 2 1/2 days and I figured that tons of people will be pulling kids out to go on vacation. The December time he would miss 4 days of school.

Here is my question...Thanksgiving seems the better time to go from the 2 times I guess for him. How really bad is it? I would be arriving Friday before Thanksgiving and leave the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Is it so crowded that it's not worth doing? Is it doable?

My only other option would be the 3rd week in August :scared1: HEAT!!! We went for the last 2 weeks in August one year. We did everything but it was sooooo hot.

I would appreciate some suggestions because I am really torn what to do. Unless he miraculously has more days off for the week of December...that one will be cancelled.:guilty:

Thanks in advance for the help and suggestions!

Don't go the week of Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!! We went the Tuesday before in 2006 and it was CRAZY until the Sunday after! We usually go the Saturday or Sunday after. I have two high-schoolers and a sixth-grader and we take them out for 3-4 days each Nov/Dec without any repercussions. If the school gives you a hard time, call them in sick:thumbsup2 They are missing 3 days when we go in April too. We have too small a window of time with our kids to worry about 3-4 days of school.

In all honesty, we do not have any intentions of EVER going that week again. Lines were long, parks crowded, pools swamped, etc.

Do the December week - I don't remember when they put up the holiday stuff, but I'm sure it will up by then, but not crowded.

We usually do the first week of November (my kids always develop a nasty cough right then.... very contagious... ;) ), but I've heard that Thanksgiving is torture.

Enjoy!

I vote for going in December! We went last year and it was fantastic!! As far as time off from school- my motto is this- my kids are great when they are at school, do well, and stay on top of things- I think that a week off is acceptable- I do it at work each year, why can't they??

My vote is for December!! The decorations are beautiful and x-mas vacation is pretty long during that time.

We were there this past Thanksgiving and did not find it torture at all. We have been at Easter - that was torture! It was crowded but not ridiculous. We were at MK on Tgiving Day! We went the day before Tgiving and left the Tuesday after. The crowds really lightened up on the Sunday and Monday after..... we did MVMCP on the Sunday after Tgiving.

I feel for you! It is not as easy to have the kids miss school once they hit high school. I vote for December unless at your school that is the end of the first semester. Don't go before finals!!! If the kids are stong academically, there is less hassle with asking for a extraordinary absence. With my DS, we usually chose missing time around spring break, but that was our best option. With my DD who is now 16, she is homeschooled, so hello vacation any time that suits us best! I love it, but I realize that does not work for everyone!! Christmas at Disney? What is NOT to love.:santa:
