We had a trip planned for May 13-20th, 2016. We have 3 children, one with autism. We were planning to pull them out of school. We feel comfortable with this (we're both educators and our children are in 3rd grade and K). It was going to be AFTER state testing. We were going to stay 2 days at Caribbean Beach and then transfer over to Swan & Dolphin, where we have 5 reward nights. I'm super excited about it.

Well, I just found out my work is sending me to Orlando February 1st through February 6th. At first, I thought maybe my husband and daughter (3 yrs) could join us and we could find someone to stay with the boys in school, then 3 months later we'd just go again. But then we'd have to get tickets for them when they come in February and tickets again in May and an annual pass is so expensive....*sigh*

Then, I started to wonder if we shouldn't just move our family trip trip. I checked, and our Swan & Dolphin would work the 5 days before my work conference. I would have to take off less overall days due to the work conference at the end and not needing to travel. At work, I'll be staying at Coronado Springs or Animal Kingdom, so they could spend a couple days there and then fly back home without me while I stayed for work. My only hesitation is that this is before state testing for my 3rd grader (which takes place May 1st), so I know they'll be doing instructional activities. I don't know--either way I'd be pulling them out of school. Still, is it silly to fly to Disneyworld in Feb and then again in May? I could save money by just moving our family trip!

*Edited to add--On the work conference, I'll be working all day. It's not like I'll have the evenings "free" or anything, so that won't be my vacation. I'm wanting to bring the family out before then. So I don't know if my husband and daughter should even go if we don't move the trip, except they'd just be sitting at home (hubby doesn't work) and they might as well be with me at Disneyworld. Right? or not?

So what would you do?

I voted for January...but then I wouldn't have planned a trip for May to begin with. I'm not willing to go anytime from May to September...just too hot! I'm from Houston, so I'm used to the same type of weather as Orlando, but I don't spend time outside at home during those months if I can avoid it, either.

Seriously, though, I wouldn't worry too much about testing at their ages. I'm still a little bit ambivalent about pulling mine out of school (my one DD is about to start kindergarten, so I haven't had to decide yet...but I'm going to be planning a trip soon that I'll probably pull her out for), but if they're missing it either way I think January is fine.
