LOL you caught me...actually I have been a SAHM for the last 8 years (I'm not making that up! LOL) , I just got MY decent job a week ago (gotta pay for Catholic HS tuition next year and its one of the top 50 in the country!! And its in OHIO!! wowee we are heading into the big leagues now...) LOL

Does my dd13 count as my maid and nanny ??? LOL

I'm debating with this guy and it's driving me nuts. He thinks he can get a nice, large house for $60k or so, and that it'll be a nice, safe, non-ghetto neighborhood.

I keep pounding on his head that he'll need to spend $100k+ for a nice detached house, but he won't listen.

Am I wrong? or is he wrong?

Around here, 100k won't even get you out of the slums. And, I'm talking REAL, HONEST TO GOODNESS slums.

BTW, We were at the Inner Harbor a few years ago on a trip to Hershey PA...Went to IH for a side trip...We loved it...the National Aquarium is awesome!..Can't wait to go back!!! We even got lost in the "ghetto" area trying to find the IH!!!!

Honestly, my DH has been looking at transferring to Minneapolis area for work (his job is based in Woodbury) and for what we paid $58K for in a decent area here doesn't pay for a garage in a bad area there....houses similiar to ours going about $175K there and thats in less than desirable areas (we have researched online and through friends who live there!

We put in a price range of around 90-125 K and it pulled up some tiny Dumps!! 900 sq ft, one bed, no garage in the slum area. So I totally believe that real estate is out of control in some places...We are fortunate to live in a nice state and in an inexpensive area.

Even apartments,,,,we are looking at townhouses as an option there and what we would pay around $800-900 here is about $1500 there.

As a matter of fact, if you look at the link to the house the OP posted, the town that the house is in is actually in a VERY low-crime area. The crime rate there is about 1/3 of the National crime rate.

So I agree, you can't tell from a photo!

I just read in another thread the OP started that she is 15. That probably has alot to do with why she is "debating" with this guy so heavily over this issue.

It must be the age. My nephew is 15 lives in the country about 10 miles from us yet he is convinced we live in the ghetto. He wil come over and pace on the porch waiting for a drive by to happen or something What's funny is that THEIR house was broken into by a friend of theirs. My sister has even gone as far as to say that my niece is not allowed to date any boys from Toledo, because they are all thugs...WEll gee, thanks for that vote of confidence for your nephew and bro in law. I guess my sweet little guy is just a thug in training...I just and because my DOG is more mature than her kids. But thats another story for another day.

Alot of the responses weren't flames.

Alot of people who live in higher priced areas cannot imagine that there really are nice areas with low-priced homes. I live in one of them. As I said, we have alot of old coal mining towns that have lower priced homes than most areas. Even the towns that are not coal mining towns are alot lower priced than other areas and other states.

I can't. That's why I said my opinion is only based on the photo. The house itself looks like it belongs in the ghetto. I have no idea what the neighborhood is like.
