I started a thread on the debate board about teenage curfews. A town near ours in thinking of starting one. This, naturally, has started a spirited debate in our house.

I would love to get opinions of teenagers on this issue. So, if you would like to give your opinion, please visit the thread on the debate board.

Thanks!

I think a curfew is something that parents should give their kids, because all families are different.

In San Diego there is a 10pm cerfew for everyone under 18 (I believe). I never paid any attention to it though, I have been outside downtown and in my neighborhood after that. During jr. high I would get in trouble and had a 7pm curfew on school nights so i had time to do my hmwk and get to bed on time. I think that it should be something that the parent decides though. I can understand the curfew during the week, but on the weekends if you parents let you out all night, then it shouldn't be a problem.

The village I live in has an 11pm curfew for those under 17 or 18, I can't remember which. It's pretty well enforced. I mean, they won't stop you in your car just to scold you for being out past curfew, but if you're out walking that late or something, and a cop is in the area, they'll stop and ask whatcha doin. I don't think it's that bad, but then again, I've never had a problem with curfew issues. As long as my parents know where I am, curfew isn't really a major issue.

12am here for anyone under 18. It's enforced somewhat... but nobdy cares one way or another. I look at it like, if I'm not drinking, doing drugs, or vandalizing anything... get off my back.

In my city it is 9 pm on weeknights or 11pm on Friday and Saturday for under 18. I'm not really opposed to it becuase I don't see why it is too hard for people to stay home then or at least with an adult. All it does is help prevent crime really.

NH has a statewide driving curfew, for anyone under the age of 18. We can't be on the roads between 1 and 5 am. But at least where I live there is no other curfew, and I'm glad. I would probably never be hanging around anywhere after 11ish but it's still nice not to have one. At the same time though, there is no reason for one in my town, because there is no place to hang out, besides someone's house. If you want to do anything you have to go to one of the other towns or cities in the area, to the mall or movie theater, etc. I still don't like the ideas of a curfew though, because they punish the innocent who do nothing wrong, and in reality do nothing about the kids that cause trouble, because when you think about it, even if it does get them into trouble, those kids will still continue breaking curfew. So it doesn't solve the problem.

I am not sure if our town has a curfew or not. But, since we have a mall and two movie theaters in our town, that is usually where all the kids go. For me, since I have to be picked up, my curfew (which I usually go to the mall with friends and that's really it) is usually mall closing time. Curfew should be something that the kids and parents both agree to, and it should also depend on where your kid is going, who they are going with, etc.

im now 18. but when i was 16 i got a 11pm curfew. it sucked and all but it was their choice...just like it should be the choice of all parents and not the city/states. if nyc ever started that nonsense (if they havent alredy and not to my knowledge) and i was underage, i would march rite up to mayor bloomberg and tell him jus how i feel.

i really have no clue if our town has a curfew or not...i doubt it does because i have been out pretty late with some friends of mine....we couldn't sleep so we went for a walk...no one really cares....but then again even if they did, everyone knows every cop here and everyone says they would never get us in trouble....hehe

in the big g-burg our curfew is 10:30 or eleven (not sure as i live in the country and it doesnt apply to me) and midnight on the weekends. i think it is a good idea to have one because if you dont then there will be teens running around everywhere. and some of them dont even need to be allowed to be out anyways. in fact three of our grade schools just got broken into this past weekend and twenty-five thousand dollars worth of damage was done to just one of the schools. thats an excellent reason to have a city-wide curfew.

ouch...thats alotta damage. i know what u mean tho. some of these teenagers are just animals (around where i live at least) and they are destructive and malicious. there should be what i like to call "selective lockdown". this is where known troublemakers are forced to go in by a certain time while the rest of the teenagers are allowed to stay out until the parents say they have to go in. but thats in a perfect world and wont happen netime soon.

Then you end up with going to segregation and profiling which sparks debates and sets our country back as we need to treat each other equaly. Yes that means the whole nation needs to pay for the acts of "bad" people. IT's like spreading it out. More people that share in it then less it is per person to say. And even though that was only a suggestion by you it has many flaws like, How would you classify someone as a "troublemaker"? Or how would you ase there acts on this new timing? Sorry I just got my little politic flair going.

i didnt really think it thru. i was just thinking off of the top of my head. i c what u meen tho.

We have a curfew for the people being downtown where all the clubs and bars are.....like if ur under 18 u have to be off the street by like 10 or 11......but i mean i've never seen it enforced cause TONS of kids have fake ids.

i think that it is a good idea if it was enforced! When driving here if you have your permit or you dont have your full liscens you have to be in by midnight... This stops all the kids who are drinking to stay in someplace... or just not drink that night! but you can get away with it if you are older... so i mean... it doents really matter...

Here in titusville Pa it is 1am. I think it is stupid. We have the highest crystal meth problem in the world. no wonder kids r messed up in town. they r out all nite getting drugs.

Where I live, we have a curfew @ 10 or 11 but everyone stays out till 2 or 3 and the people who want to sleep can't because they are yelling. My mom and dad makes me come in @ 9 or 10 in the summer. I think there should be a curfew and everyone goes in not o that person's dad is a fireman you can stay out till whenever and keep the people who want to sleep up. Sorry if I sound mean about this but these people keep me up. :headache:

in my town we dont have a curfew but our town is so small our police officers dont care cuz they r volunteer anyway but i think that the parents should set the curfew cuz some kids r different some r responsible and some arent the town should have no right to resrtict u from doing no harm to the property

Curfews should be up to your parents because each kid is different. Grouping teenagers together like that is a form stereotyping in my mind. Everyone is different and noone is the same!
