I have a private car service picking 7 people up at 8:30am; we have an early flight. I assume we will put out our luggage the night before since we can't do on-line checkin. Any suggestions on when we should leave the ship in the morning so we have enough time to gather our luggage and go through customs to meet our car service?

Our 1st time on DCL.

Thanks!

That works very well.

At Port Canaveral the disembarkation normally starts at 7.30 am, main sitting has breakfast circa 7 am snd late st 8.15 you then walk off find luggage go through border and immigration control.

You will meet private transportation outside the fence / gates.

So I would say you need yo be getting off by 8.10 am. Best time 8am, fine if on main dinner st 7am, if on late try cabanas.

I would be in the lobby at 8am. There will be a line to leave the ship, but it moves quickly. I would recommend getting a luggage person from the main building (where your luggage is) before going thru customs. He/She can assist with locating your luggage and getting you out to your private car.

You don't have to do online checkin to carry your bags off yourself if you want to save the time in the terminal looking for them.

The easiest thing to do in this case might be to eat breakfast in Cabanas in shifts, while the others stay in the room getting everything from the morning packed up, then when everyone is done eating and before 8:00 when you have to be out of your rooms, leave your rooms and head for the lobby with all of your bags to debark.

You can get a porter at the bottom of the escalators in the terminal to help through customs and out to the car pickup, and you'll be there by 8:30 when your car service comes.

You don't have to put your bags out, and you don't have to eat in the MDRs for your last breakfast, I much prefer Cabanas that last morning, it's so much easier and eating in shifts means you don't have to cart your bags around with you but can still carry them off.

We ate in Cabanas 7:30 checked off ship, went down to customs, at bottom of esclator they asked if we wanted a porter, said yes. Was in car headed home at 8:02. Porter ask our room number and took us right go our bags, then took carry offs put every thing for five on cart and took us to customs check out. Then took us to our car in garage best 15 dollars i ever spent.

The porters are amazing. I really dislike the tipping culture, but give me a porter every time. LOVE them.

OP, take the bags off or put them out, based on what you want to do. This has nothing to do with anything, but just to explain...."I assume we will put out our luggage the night before since we can't do on-line checkin"... Unless you're carrying off your bags, everyone puts out bags. Those like you who will be putting bags into a vehicle simply meet their bags in the customs building. Those who do onboard checkin say goodbye to the bags at the same time as you, but instead of seeing your bags in the building, you see them next at your home airport.

Doesn't make any difference for your situation, but it sounded like maybe there was a gap in knowledge and I wanted to help out. :)

We have done this both ways....

The first Disney sailing we did, was a last minute family vacation splurge. Our flight left MCO at about 12:15pm. We used Happy Limo, and I asked them to pick us up at 8:30. We carried our own luggage off, and used room service for breakfast. (Since we were staying concierge, we could use room service the last morning. Non-concierge guests cannot do this.)

Last year, we again used Happy Limo, but we were going on to WDW for a few days. This time, we used DCL to carry our bags off. It also worked flawlessly.

What I am getting at is, if you are tight on time making flights, carry your own luggage off and don't worry about breakfast seatings. After a cruise, most people are too darn full to worry about what kind of breakfast they had. And if you do need food, your limo service will stop somewhere for a nominal fee. (We paid an extra $15 for a grocery stop one time.. After spending the money on a cruise, that's kind of peanuts.)

So GEGrant, when you had the 8:30 Happy Limo pick-up; what time did you leave the ship? 8:00am.

I have the exact same situation, Happy Limo is picking us up at 8:30 am for a 12pm flight.

We plan to use disney transportation to get from port to the airport. How does that process work? Will disney haul our luggage to the airport? Or do we bring it with us in the am? I'm confused and obviously a first timer :)

DCL will handle your luggage from port to airport ONLY if you participate in the Onboard Airline Check in program. You must be flying a participating airline, and the flight must meet certain criteria.

If you are not doing OAC, you may put your bags out the last night, but will need to collect them in the terminal before going through Customs.

Enjoy your cruise!

I would check the lobby around 7:30 for a line. When we were on the Dream, we walked right off no problem. But our last cruise on the Fantasy, There was a line down one side all the way to Animators, down the other side to the theater doors, and up the stair wells. And it was NOT moving. This was around 8:30am. Because of my son's disability, we ended up waiting out on the promenade for about an hour. I was very nervous we were going to miss our plane. The good thing though was once we were off the ship, we kept moving, slowly but we were moving.

We recently got off The Fantasy about 7.45am. No problem. No line. Walked straight off and a porter got our luggage and took us straight out. Very easy and quick.

I have found the line moves quickly, I have done both, line up for door opening, gone to breakfast, going to breakfast was best, I have seen the line build up then go, and clear then we walked off in a breeze, it's tidal as just before 9 am it really gets busy.

Ran into the same problem on the Dream. They announced several times that due to the volume of people in the terminal picking up their bags they had to hold back the line until the room emptied out some. There would be a large surge of people out, wait and another surge of people out. When we first saw the line we first thought 'Oh my gosh' it will take forever to disembark, it actually went pretty fast.

Can we use DCL ground transportation to airport after the cruise if we have an 11:30 flight?

IF you booked it I would think so.

DCL says 11:30 should be the earliest you should book your flight so I think that you will be OK

I heard back from Disney: As long as the flight is at 11:30am or later, you would be able to use the Disney Cruise Line Transportation. You will also be able to check in to your flight, as long as it is one of the airlines that they use on the Onboard Airline Check-in.
