Death Penalty...

Some states allow the death penalty and others do not. Today, the only methods used are the electric chair, gas chamber, firing squad, hanging and euthanasia/lethal injection.

Are you for or against the death penalty? Also, if you were a criminal sentenced to the death penalty (state permitting) and had the choice of any method...which would you choose?

My government class had this topic going and it was very interesting to hear people's views on the issue and how strong these opinions were. I thought I might ask anyone here who is willing to read lol. Please post respectively.

euthanasia its just a few shots i think but id never do any thing to get death sentance any way the thought freeks me out

Well...
I'm neither for it or against it.
I suppose if someone did something really wrong (like if they were a terrorist, or a serial killer), I could see the point in it. But if it's nothing that's harmed many people, I say nay.

I would like to be put to sleep like an animal. But I'd rather starve to death or something like that. But that's not really an option presented today.

I'm all for the idea of, if you kill someone, we're going to kill you back.

Ron White had a joke on it, but it was a real thing. In Texas they passed a bill saying that if three credible whitnesses said they saw you do what you did, then you got strait to the front of the line. I like that idea.

That idea has been around since civilization started. I can't spell the guys name, but he came up with a code of laws that stated "an eye for an eye and a nose for a nose" equal and opposite punishment. Its a misconception that that idea was originally in the bible, it has been around since written language could record it.

I am against it. You should never kill a peron, the only person who is allowed to kill another is God.

(I'm not getting all religious and stuff but its true!)

Sparx: Yup, that guy was Hammurabi.

My opinion? I am strongly for it. I totally agree that if you kill someone, you should be killed back. I realize that it will probably never come into place but my thoughts are if you drown someone, then let's go find a pool for you. You tie someone up and make slits all over their neck, same to you. You cut someone's ear, bury them in the woods with their head sticking out of the ground so the dogs smell the blood and come a knaw your head off, hope you like dogs. (sorry for the goryness of that one, I saw it on CSI and was ammused by it!) It doesn't make sense why you could totally butcher someone and just be given shots so it doesn't cause too much pain when you die. (I realize that's not the only reason) Give me a break.

As for how I would want to die say I was put in that position, I would pick euthanasia.

Yes. Spelling isn't my strongest point, and I would've totally mangled that.

I am all for firing squads too. Theres no way thats not painful. I think if you hurt someone, you should be hurt in the same way or a worse way. I'm all for cruel and unusual. I have no pity for murders or rapists or child molesters. and I honestly think castration should be the punishment for sexual crimes.

Just to put it out there, some people believe that sending a person to prison for life without parole in a tight fitting room is a far worse punishment than the death penalty. Some argue that the death penalty is the "easy" way out.

I found the way the firing squad works rather interesting. They tie the criminal to a pole and then bring in a doctor. The doctor marks the area on the body that is the "softest" or fastest area to kill if hit as such. Then, they have 5 sharp shooters fire at the person. However, only four are actually firing real bullets. One of the shooters is firing blanks, only they don't know which one of them it is. I was told that was for sanity reasons on the part of the squad.

Also, isn't it being debated whether castration will be used as a method of punishment for the sexual crimes? Or was it just rumored?

The problem with that though is that there is no unescapeable prison.

i migth be wrong but,
tax payer pay for people to be in jail, i would rather have a murder die then having to pay to keep him alive

That's interesting.

Tax payers do pay for people in jail.

Not to mention the jails are over-crowded as it is.

Some prisons have better athletic services than some schools heh. I was reading about some prisons and after I thought, my gosh...no wonder there are so many criminals! lol. There are lots of other "services" too. Heck, they get three fully rounded meals. Something else to think about.

Exactly.
In a lot of cases, the person probably knew that they would get caught for doing things. You've got your stupid violaters of every kind, and you've got the smart ones.
The dumb ones just do it because they think it's cool, or they figure there's not other choice in life. They don't really think about getting caught.
But then you've got the smart ones, they know they might get caught, and if they're smart enough (say a terrorist of some sort) to plan some big scheme, locking them up for life is just going to give them more time to think about how to get out.

This might just be in tennessee, but don't you get a ton of appeals made avalible to you when you are sentenced to death? And theres no telling how long those people can sit on death row.

Death could be considered an easy way out. But I'm not one for making it easy. They need to be punished. So punish them.

There are some convicts who have died of old age on death row because of filing appeals. I say one appeal. Thats it. Then if the govenor doesn't call, well too bad jack, see ya later.

I'm also one for a hanging too. And I think they should be televised.
