Death on Mission Space....

The article stated that Disney closed the ride right after this happened. I wonder if it is still closed. I would think that they will wait until the autopsy to decide of they are going to open it back up or not. One thing is for sure, if it stays open they are definitely going to raise the height requirement greatly. We were just on this ride in May with a 6 and 8 year old. It really makes you think about the risks you take when you read a story like this.

Today's news said M:S opened on schedule this morning.

Apparently no one understood what I was trying to say. So I'll just say nothing rather then be jumped all over.

This is a perfect example of why I am a lurker rather than a poster.

I just want to say that my heart goes out to this family - you go to Disneyworld for a wonderful trip and a tragedy like this is just such a devastating thing to happen.

God bless them.

I can't imagine the grief and pain the parents must be going through right now. I think they would have to put me in the padded room if something were to ever happen to my child.

I guess we didn't understand your first post, it came across as very harsh and angry and that you were placing blame with the parents. People react differently to tramatic events. Some feel anger, some despair, some try to place blame, all normal reactions. If your reaction was something other than anger and blame placing, please do explain. If your are angry, it is a normal reaction, but people here are dealing with the trauma they are feeling in a different way and aren't going to understand your post. I think we really just want to show support for those poor parents, I hope NEVER to feel what they are feeling. OK, going to hug my children now..... :grouphug:

There has been an update on the autopsy. The Orlando Sentinal website has some more info, there were no signs of any obvious trauma. Further tests will be needed to investigate cause of death. Not being medical, I don't know if this means they have ruled out a heart attack, for example. This must be devastating for the family, the tests could take up to a month to complete, you just can't comprehend the what if's that they must be putting themselves through.

Actually if you think about the hundreds of thousands of times this ride has operated, it is much safer than any of the other vehicles we ride in everyday. It is certainly much safer than car travel, and also air travel. You're taking a much greater risk driving or flying to the parks than you are getting on this ride.

I'm sorry but you do the "little girl hurt" act instead of explaining. Just because people didn't agree with your post doesn't mean you cant still have your opinion.

Besides, this poor me attitude is petty. This is about a dead child and most likely a devestated and no doubt guilt-ridden family.

I am in shock. I just can't fathom what that poor family is feeling. I hadn't heard about it until just now when my dh told me just before we sat down to dinner... now I can't eat. What a horrible tragedy. Our prayers are with those parents and the rest of their family.

I am sure there are plenty of disney cm's that are suffering because of this also. Think of the engineers that designed this ride, the cm's who helped the boy on, or the cm who just smiled at him moments before his death.

It's tragic all the way around. Breaks my heart. Someone said you parents would never suspect death as a result from a Disney experience ride. That is for sure. I had so much guilt over my 6 yr old being scared out of her mind and crying all the way through tower of terror... I can't imagine how I would feel if it was my family in her place right now.

Quick question what are the height requirements ?? I cant really imagine a 4 year old being 48 in. if thats what it is??
