my daughter and I are on the plane from Boston to LAX to start a three day DLR visit. We got the word soon after take off that my mother in law died this morning. She wasn't well but her death is unexpected. We will return immediately to be with my husband and family.

I am pretty sure that I can get our hotel and flights reimbursed thanks to trip insurance on our MasterCard.

Is there anyway to recoup our parkhoppers, dining reservation and WOC dessert party tickets? Not a high priority but I have time to kill on two long, sad flights so thought I'd ask this kind community.

Thanks.

No on the tickets, but they will hold their dollar value even after expiration & can be applied to a future ticket. WOC dessert party is refundable up to 24 hours before the party (even if you missed that I'd call Disney immediately & try for a refund). Don't understand the dining, just cancel all your reservations. If you're already in the 24 hour window call Disney, I expect they'll waive the cancellation fee for you. Your key here is you'll need to give Disney a call as soon as you're off the plane. 714-781-3463. (You'll have to wait on hold but nothing says you can't do that in an airport.)

Thoughts and prayers with your family.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss :(

Disney is pretty understanding about tough situations like this, explain what happened to them and hopefully they can do something. I've heard of people having luck with them before.

Thanks for the quick help. I'll call when we land. WOC is tomorrow night so we may get lucky.

How long is the ticket good for? A year?

Call your travel insurance policy to see what your coverage is for new flights and you can ask if they cover the tickets. Park tickets will have a fixed expiration, so tickets purchased in June could have the same expiration date as tickets purchased in April. Also call your hotel and cancel. Some insurance policies won't cover anything that you could have canceled but didn't.

I thought that park tickets expired. AP vouchers hold their value past the expiration, but park tickets now expire.

Park tickets do expire but they will always hold the dollar value purchased toward a new ticket. You have to go to a ticket booth to do this. I've done this in the past with a cancelled trip.

OP, I hope Disney will make an exception with your dining reservation cancellation. I'm sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers to your family during this time.

I've had to cancel dining reservations the morning of and they do allow a one time exception to cancel within the 24hr window.

And it doesn't have to be exactly 24 hours it can just be the day before as I have done this before. I'm so sorry for your loss.

So sorry about your mother-in-law. Everything should be reimbursed. You should also write a letter to DIsneyland Guest Relations as well. Write it to

They are very good in responding and dealing with problems/complaints,

If you need any help, let me know. I am good with filling out forms.

Thank you, all, for your kind words and helpfulness. I got through to Disney Dining on my second attempt and the woman couldn't have been nicer. Cancelled everything kindly and credited me for Dessert Party.

Hilton Doubletree asked me to call their reservations manager on Monday to see what they can do. And she was so kind on the call.

Flying home now....somewhere over Michigan. Bought new American tickets because they worked. Neither the ticket agent or the flight attendants even acknowledged our sadness but I appreciate that many did. Will work with MasterCard at a later date to see if we can get flights reimbursed. A small problem to have right now.

Thanks, again.
