There's a story on the community board about a three year old choking on a hot dog at Universal over Easter. Anyone hear anything about this?

THat same thing was posted on the Disney board saying it happened at WDW.

Boy oh boy I feel sorry for that flying chocking kid, where are they going next Seaworld or Cypress Gardens.

This past weekend a little girl at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee IL choked on a piece of candy/gum while riding the Raging Bull. This is a true and very sad story. The little girl did not make it. She was from Gary IN. The story may have stemed from this news.

No, because this info was posted on the Disney board BEFORE the girl choked at Great America. I know the girl story is true, I live by there and my mom works at the ER. The girls whole family was in the parking lot of the ER in hysterics! Poor family! I feel so bad for them. I have an 11 year old, so it really hit home.

You know this sort of thing is really not that uncommon. Please slice your child's hotdogs down the middle. cut grapes in half! I did both these things for years, my son is six now. I was at the beach a couple of weeks ago and I was paying attention to my nephew, I look over and my son was bright red! He was choking on a grape and couldn't breathe. I whacked his back and under his ribs and the grape came flying out! I really thought I would panic in this kind of situation. So, no more grapes for a while! LOL I also told him if this ever happens again he needs to get someones attention, I can't imagine what would have happened if i hadn't looked over at him.
I'm not sure if that Universal story is true or not, and what is the benefit to telling a story like this anyway if it's not true?

The issue isn't where it happened (at least it isn't to me anyway). The original poster on the community board stated that it happened at Disney and that paramedics had a hard time getting there. Some posters got very upset that it couldn't possibly be Disney and that the OP should change the thread title. Then there were allegations of it happening at Universal. I was just wondering if anyone had heard anything over here.

A giant  & for those posters who said "it couldn't possibly be Disney". Bad stuff happens at any theme/amusement park, but it's often not heard about or someone stretches the truth and then look what happens.

And as for the "benefit" of telling a story - Bad Press. "Someone died over at X-park, it's not safe over there. Go to Y -park where it's never happened." Something like that, IMO.

I've also heard stories about someone drowning in the small water area around Planet Hollywood, I guess that makes eating there unsafe too

My mom misstepped coming down the PH stairs and hurt herself once. We still eat there occasionally, but she refuses to take the stairs down now.

There is no doubt that the 3yr old son of a 4th grade teacher in NY died from choking on a hotdog over Easter break. It is clear it happened while they were on vacation in Orlando, but there is confusion as to what park (if any) it happened at. Several DIS'ers work in the same school district and have heard various accounts of where it heppened.

No one said it couldn't happen at WDW. What was said was that there are emergency plans in place that would have made it easy for medical personal to get to the child. The op claimed that an amubulance could not get through and WDW would not clear a path for them. The fact is that there is emergency services located just outside a back gate (not a public gate, it is located past the CR/MK if it is the one I'm thinking of. The red lights have devices that are triggered to respond to emergency lights, so that intersection will be cleared. The OP insisted that no one should count on WDW in an emergency.

Later someone posted that their neighbor(?) babysat the couples other child during the funeral, and that the neighbor said it happened at US/IOA. The OP still insist it had to have happened at WDW. The fact is we don't know where it happened and it is unfair for the OP over there to continue to blame WDW for poor care when she does not have the facts.
