There's an article on the Orlando Sentinel website saying that a boy died on the Rock n Roller Coaster...

very sad. Anyone have more details on exactly what happened?

That is terribly sad. The article says he died after riding and was pronounced dead en route to the hospital. Prayers for him and his family.

Boy dies after riding Disney rollercoaster
Officials report the death this afternoon.

A boy died today after riding the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Disney MGM theme park, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

The boy, who was reported to be either 7 or 12 by authorities, was declared dead en route to an area hospital. The rescue call came in this morning about 11:20 a.m.

The coaster is the second-fastest ride at Disney, with top speed of 57 mph. According to the Disney web site, "This attraction pulls between 4 and 5 big, fat, monster Gs. Space shuttle astronauts, by comparison, experience 3 Gs at liftoff.''

The fastest ride at Disney is Epcot's Test Track, which reaches speeds of 65 mph.

The indoor ride catapults people from zero-to-60 mph in 2.8 seconds.

Riders speed through a make-believe night of Southern California in a 24-passenger stretch limo. The ride climbs to 85 feet and goes by Hollywood landmarks. It includes five inversions.

How sad. Sending my prayers for his family.

That is absolutely horrible!

The thing that confuses me though is, why does Universal not have any reports like this (or do they)?

I never hear about this with IOA at Universal. With the intense rides they have at IOA surely they have as many, if not more problems, yet I never hear about it.

It just got me curious.

I just really feel sorry for his family. Can you imagine what his mom and/or dad must be going through right now. That's enough to completely destoy a parent, especially when they are on vacation at a place where they likely went because they love being together as a family.

Heartbreaking.

Once more information is released about the family, us Dis'ers should find out where they live or a way to contact them and have an address to send cards and letters and let us Dis'ers flood those family members with love and condolences.

I dont know. IM sure that's a stupid idea but, I just feel so bad for that family. I think about my mom and how I'd feel as a parent, and think that I'd just want to stop living myself.

Well, as of now, there's a lot of things we don't know, and a lot of other things we'll probably never know. Most pertinent on my mind at the moment is: was it a ride malfunction? and what was the kid's health status?

A ride malfunction could have injured more than just the boy. As far as all of the other recently reported Disney mishaps, it was related to the riders health (either known to the family or not). Sad story to hear.

That's what I initially thought as well; but it could have been his individual restraint, maybe he fell out?

CNN has picked up on the story; I just received a breaking news email from them about the death. Nothing much up on CNN's website yet, though.

Agree. That confuses me too?? Could be that Disney has more #s of folks riding the rides, or that people take kids and maybe not so healthy people on the rides at WDW more often because they think Disney is safer??? :confused3
