Dear Ryan Murphy: Your show may be popular, but that doesn't give you the right...

... to be obnoxious just because a band doesn't want their music ruined by a stupid TV show. He is disgustingly full of himself! Does anyone really believe that the reason he's making an idiot out of himself is because of arts education? Pleeeeease. He wants to capitalize on someone else's success... and when they won't let him, he acts like a bully. I don't watch the show, but didn't I just read that they did some major story arc on bullying? He might want to take a look in the mirror. Or maybe he only thinks bullying is bad when it's directed toward one specific group.

What a jerk :sad2:

Glee creator Ryan Murphy is not singing a happy tune about Kings of Leon.

Murphy slammed the band in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter after the quartet turned down the show's request to perform "Use Somebody" several months back.

NBC orders the next Glee from Steven Spielberg?

<I deleted the expletive that was here...>, Kings of Leon," Murphy told the magazine. "They're self-centered <deleted again> and they missed the big picture. They missed that a 7-year-old kid can see someone close to their age singing a Kings of Leon song, which will maybe make them want to join a glee club or pick up a musical instrument. It's like, OK, hate on arts education. You can make fun of Glee all you want, but at its heart, what we really do is turn kids on to music."

Kings of Leon lead singer Caleb Followill said Murphy's angry comments were a shock to the group.

"It's gotten out of hand. At the time of the request, we hadn't even seen the show. It came at the end of that record cycle, and we were over promoting ["Use Somebody"]," Followill told The Hollywood Reporter. "This was never meant as a slap in the face to Glee or to music education or to fans of the show. We're not sure where the anger is coming from."

Murphy also took aim at Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, who would not license his music to the show. "Glee is worse than Grease, and Grease is bad enough," Slash recently said.

"Usually I find that people who make those comments, their careers are over; they're uneducated and quite stupid," Murphy said of Slash.

I follow some entertainment people on Twitter and they tweeted this today and I had to reply. I love Glee, but get over yourself! I feel a David Caruso syndrome coming on.

I HATE the Kings Of Leon. Honetsly, everytime I hear that Use Somebody song, I want ot claw my ears off. Glee is better off without them. However, Prima Donna behavior is nothing new to the world of television. Poor form by Murphy.

I think Ryan Murphy was a bit ridiculous, but I also think that the reply from one of the members of the band (which is too rude and inappropriate to post/link here) was awful. :sad2:

The whole exchange made Murphy and the band look like idiots.

Because they were being polite and didn't say what they really thought?! (Hopefully I just took care of that for them :p)

Awfully sanctimonious from a guy who did a show based on Rocky Horror Picture Show, which is *not* safe for kids, no matter how you change the lyrics.

From what I've seen and heard, NOTHING about that show is safe for 7-year-olds!

HOLLY: I just noticed you edited your comment. I googled the response and honestly, all I can say is... if you're gonna dish it out, you gotta be able to take it. I'm glad one of them opted out of the politically correct response.

I was shocked by this as well. Nothing about that show is appropriate for 7 year olds. I've seen a few episodes, and they have been very adult centred story lines. The amount of sexuality on the show is anything but appropriate for 7 year olds!

Ryan Murphy and the band acted like 7 year olds though with their responses - LOL!

I though we were talking about Ryan Murphy of Glee, Kings of Leon, and Slash?

No way those statements came from KOL, that was their publicist.

As far as Slash, now it is believable.

I thought you were lumping the entire entertainment industry together... not just those three entities.

Of course it was their publicist. Perhaps Ryan Murphy should consider hiring one :rolleyes1 LOL. I much prefer what Nathan Followill tweeted as his own response. It was honest and the fact that he felt the need to apologize for it later means that his publicist is still too involved!

Bottom line: it's their song. They do not have to give Murphy the right to use it. Why anyone would think they'd want to is beyond me. Listening to the Gleemake (do people say that or did I just make that up???) of Don't Stop Believing makes my ears bleed.

NO way that disgusting, homophobic response came from their publicist. :sad2:

That came directly from one of the KOL members.

This was the tweeted response by the KOL drummer.

“Dear Ryan Murphy, let it go. See a therapist, get a manicure, buy a new bra. Zip your lip and focus on educating 7yr olds how to say ****.”

And yes, I realize he "apologized" later. Too little, too late.

I don't see what he needs to apologize for. Murphy acted like a spoiled child who was told he can't have a pony for Christmas.

I am not sure what Nathan or KOL needs to apologize for...all they did was say no to licensing their song to a tv show. Murphy was the one that came out with guns blazing.

The Followills are known to be rowdy rebel rockers - I am surprised that is ALL they said!

I'm sorry ~ what?

So you're okay with the disgusting, homophobic response.

Got it. :thumbsup2

What part of Nathan's response was homophobic? Telling him to go get a manicure? To go buy a bra? I took it as he was telling him to stop being a drama queen - something that is not the sole jurisdiction of gay men.

I thought Murphy's response was over the top - Glee doesn't need their songs.....

KOL's response is inexcusable.....

I took it completely different than you...as a homophobic slur.

ETA: I agree that Murphy's attitude about it is uncalled for. He doesn't need KOL. LOL
