Dear, Ice Crunchers

I am jealous of anyone whose teeth are strong enough that they can crunch ice. My teeth are weak and full of fillings. I probably spent 3K on my teeth in the last year, easy. I would be in a lot of pain if I tried to chew ice! And I am only 29. :confused3

Honestly, yes - it's annoying - but until you have pica it's hard to understand why an ice cruncher for medical reasons can NOT stop.

I had an iron infusion a few months ago so I'm good now, but DH would tell me to either stop crunching or leave the room. He couldn't handle it. So I would go sit in the bedroom all night. I just couldn't go without it.

It was hard for me to be in quiet social settings... I knew it was obnoxious sounding but couldn't go without. It's odd.

Yep - I can't stop. I certainly don't want to call it an addiction but if ice is there I can't NOT crunch it. I crave it all day.

I've been anemic my entire life. I can remember having to drink liquid iron supplements as a child. I still take daily meds but I still totally need ice.

It is weird. FWIW - my teeth are fine.

Has your doc not recommended an iron infusion or something more than the iron pills? If you're still craving it, you may still have low levels.

Within 3 days of my infusion I wasn't craving ice anymore. It was amazing how much better I felt when I had a normal hemoglobin level - I had energy!

Haven't craved ice since, the iron is holding really well right now.

damn...this is on my list of co-worker thread topics. clipping fingernails too. not a good day for my list of thread topics.

I crunch ice all the time. I'm doing it now in fact. :rolleyes1 Dh hates it and always complains. That is unles he is the one doing it!!! :lmao:

I had this bad during two of my pregnancies. I would crave ice so bad, I'd practically drool when I was around it. It was nothing for me to crunch through cup after cup of ice. I also couldn't get enough of the smell of a freezer, it was really weird. Turns out it's just an iron deficient thing, but for some reason taking iron didn't help that much. Soon after I had my babies, it went away. Normally I can't stand to crunch ice!

I wanted to eat snow so badly when I was pregnant. And we had a really good winter with lots of snow. It was torture!

I was a big ice cruncher during my pregnancies. I got teased by co-workers for it because apparently it's well known that if you crunch ice you are ahem....... deprived. That was a new one for me! :rotfl:
