Hi- this is my second journal here on WISH. Some of you may remember me from 2 years ago- I did great with the WW Flex plan- lost 15 pounds- now I have gained back 7 of those. I need a lifestyle change- not a diet.
Here are my vitals-

35 year old mom of 3 (SAM for now)
5'6"
146 pounds (was 149 a week ago- yeah!)
Levi Jeans- Size 12

The reasons I am changing- in order of importance to me:
::yes:: Be a better example for my family
::yes:: LOSE WEIGHT to look better (and feel more confident)
::yes:: Be Healthy and feel better physically

OK- I know- my priorities are out of whack- but I am more motivated to look good than to improve my health. I am trying to be completely honest here- my emotional health is in jeopardy because of the way I feel about my appearance- and it is taking a toll.

I am completely changing the way I eat- I am following the Montignac Method. If anyone isn't familiar- It is an old diet that takes into account the GI value of foods- the ultimate goal is to keep your blood sugar from spiking and dropping through out the day. No sugar, white flour, potatoes- You can eat good carbs- but only by themselves- you can't mix carbs and proteins/fats. (Many people think that Somersizing is pretty much the same diet- that Suzanne Somers just re-wrote the Montignac book with some minor changes-- and added a product line to the diet.) The bad thing is I orderred the Montignac book last week and it is on back order- so I may be doing it wrong- But I have lost weight so I am happy.

THE REASON FOR THIS JOURNAL:
I do not want my kids (especially my 10 year old daughter) to hear me or see me obsessing over carbs or nutritional labels- but I need to get out my feelings and thoughts on my health plan. I want to have a piece of cake on my birthday and have gravy and mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving- I don't want my daughter to think that to eat right is to completely deprive yourself of these things. To eat right is to have good habits EVERYDAY- then it does not matter if a couple times a month you find yourself offerred birthday cake or pizza- it is no problem- because if you eat right EVERYDAY- then a treat here and there won't hurt you a bit. I don't want my daughter to see me as a dieter- but rather as a healthy eater. So this journal will be my sounding board- and I will keep my comments to myself at home.

If you are still reading this, WOW. I know this was long and boring. Thanks for sticking with me. It will be fun to get back into journalling here- such a great bunch of people. It is wonderful to give and get support.
I am off to have my grapefruit now- hope you all have a great OP day.

I just wanted to say good for you! I love that you are turning this into a lifestyle change instead of a diet. What a great example for your daughter. There are a lot of us WISHer's out there for support and advice. Keep up the good work! :cheer2:

Quick sidenote- you may have noticed that excersise was conspicuously absent from my intro. post- I do not do any sort of formal excersise yet- however- I wore a pedometer for 6 days - and I average - 9,000 steps per day- this is from running around the house- shopping- and taking walks in the neighborhood. So my activity level is considerred moderate. Right now I am just changing my eating- breaking my sugar addiction and getting comfortable with that- and then I will slowly add in some real excersise. I am afraid to make too many changes at once.

Tonight I am celebrating my DS 9th birthday at Medievel Times- Dinner is a BUFFET :scared1: - but I figure I can get a salad and some protein and that should be fine. Tomorrow my baby boy turns 3 (Can I still call him my 'Baby Boy?- ) So I have to avoid a few land mines this weekend- not too worried about it though.

Welcome back to WISH! :flower: It's great to have you back!!! ::yes::

Happy Birthday to your DS and have a wonderful time tonight! :goodvibes

Welcome back! You've come to the right place for motivation & encouragement!

Thanks for the support guys-
I have been doing a good job of eating right- I had to abandon my low carb plan for now because on Monday I got a debilitating migraine complete with vision loss and vomitting- it was terrible. I don't know if it had anything to do with my diet- but I had cereal for dinner that night and have been eating oatmeal and good carbs- and I have been more concerned with making good choices- no sugar, no potatoes... I am so scared of getting another one of those headaches- It is impossible to take care of the kids when one of those hits- Luckily my sweet 9 and 10 year old took over and cared for my 3 year old while I was in bed on Monday. They are good kids- so lucky they were home from school that day (MLK birthday).
Anyway- thanks everybody for stopping in- Have a greeat day.
Mary

Hi Mary!!

Welcome back to the DIS WISH board!

Sounds like you're doing a great job already! I see a nutritionist and am also concentrating on a new life plan, not necessarily dieting (although I want to lose weight too). I totally understand where you're coming from when you mentioned your daughter. I too don't want my daughter to worry about deprivation, or have a poor self-image of herself. That was one of my main reasons for seeing a nutritionist...to educate me in order for me to educate and feed my family correctly.

Keep up the great work!!

Still doing well- Plus- yesterday I jumped on the trampoline with my 3 year old for about 45 minutes (not continuous jumping but it was pretty tiring) Iwill weigh myself on Mondays.
This WOE (way of eating) is pretty easy. Last night we had salmon and asparagus- All of the food I am eating is whole foods- and it is all so fresh and good. The only bad things I am doing is eating sugar subsitute- (splenda- or equal) and I am still on caffeine.
Have a great weekend everybody.

Hi Mary!! You're doing great! Jumping on a trampoline is a really good workout!

Keep it up! You can do it!! :woohoo:

Just checking in- I lost another 2 pounds- which is a miracle as my visitor arrived yesterday!
Also- 1st time in a while that I didn't have any pre-menstral moodiness/irritability- maybe because of my diet. I am eating no sugar and mostly fresh foods. Trying to stay away from processed foods, preservitives...
I feel good.
