I'm considering purchasing an ad on at AKV. I have 200 pts at OKW with Oct Use Year. Can I specify a different Use Year (say March) for the ad on? Is there a reason that I would want them both the same? We travel mostly at Spring break (late March) or 1st week in June, so it looks like March would be a better Use Year. I believe someone told me DVC might insist on having the same Use Year. Ok guys what do you think?

I am glad you asked this question! I was wondering about the pros/cons of different use years. We have an April use year for BWV and was thinking of adding an AKL contract w/ Oct use year for fall trips.

I'm not an expert. Heck, I'm not even Dean.
If you buy 150 or more points you can make that another master contract, and you can request another use year. Less than 150 points will be classified as an add on, and you will get the same use year.
Resale is a different story. The resale contract will retain it's original use year. :smokin:

The only advantage to having all contracts the same use year, is ease of tracking your points and banking deadlines.

There are advantages to certain use years, depending on your vacationing timeframe. Generally speaking, a use year just before you normally use most of your points is a good use year. :smokin:

1. All points from all add-on contracts may be combined in any combination desired to make a reservation at any DVC resort at 7-months.

With separate contracts (membership numbers), contracts may not be combined.

2. Banking percentages for add-on contracts apply to the total of all the contracts. Thus if the OP had 200 OKW points and 150 AKV points, and used all of the OKW points but none of the AKV points, he could still bank all 150 AKV points at the 50% window.

In the same situation above, if the two contracts were totally different, he could only bank 75 of the AKV points and would have to either use the other 75 points or lose them.

Glad OP asked the question. We usually travel in Nov, Dec and Jan, and it has always been a pain to worry about the risk of canceling and missing banking deadline for our Feb UY points. We like to get a new AKV contract with Oct UY. If I ever have to transfer points from our Feb UY contract to the new Oct UY AKV contract (or visa versa) to complete a large reservation at a non-home resort (7mos), will I have to manage & track both Feb & Oct UY points in that account? Not looking to cheat the system, but want to know the rules, ins and outs before deciding whether to add on or get a new contract. Although, we're leaning to get a new one. Please help me decide.

You can specify a different use year if you buy the minimum new buy in currently 150 but going to 160 pts. Overall I think the advantages of having them together outweigh the advantages of them being separate but not enough to force one to buy retail compared to resale and not enough to hold out resale for a specific use year. The registration has to be exactly the same so if you want to add someone it'll be separate no matter if it's the same use year or not.

Ok, I get it, I have to buy 150 pts for a different use year.

What if I bought 100 pt add on and specified a different combination of owners on the contract than what is on the existing contract. Could I then get a different use year?:confused3

No. If you purchase fewer than 150 points from Disney, it will be set up as an add-on contract, titled the same as your master contract. If your goal is to get a different UY, you have two options: 1) purchase 150 points from Disney or 2) buy a resale contract.

Lisa is correct, I've tried. Even asked the info through Corporate last year when I was talking to them about another issue. I expected to be told no but was told essentially "we'll work something out" but when the time came the answer was no. But you can buy then change it over, that's what I'll do. I actually bought 100 pts with four 25 pt contracts and plan to change over 1 only to include my daughter and ? my son just so they'll have member cards and perks.
