We want to get the kids a netbook for Christmas this year. Are there any great deals out there right now? Anything I should look for or avoid?

Is the main difference between a laptop and netbook size and no cd/dvd drive?

I'm hoping to be under $300 and really think I can. Ideally I'd like to be under $250 but that may not be as easy.

We just bought 2 for $99. each from CVS. I found a review that explains what the difference is here:

Go to Yahoo & search for : Tiny Netbook Computer Review: Sylvania 7-inch Netbook
( sorry tried to post the link & it didn't work)

I think they are going to be perfect for what my kids need because the issue in our house is everyone wanting to use the internet at the same time. For facebook & things like webkins.

Won't know until Christmas though, how well it works. :santa:

I'm planning on getting DD7 one of the CVS one's for xmas. For what she wants it for, it's perfect. I read mixed reviews on it so not sure I would get it for an older kid. This one will be on sale for $79 on BF. If you're looking for a more substantial one, Radio Shak will have one for $179 on BF that looks really good.

If at all possible, I would buy them a regular notebook laptop. WalMart is going to have an e-machines laptop on Black Friday for $198 and an HP laptop for $298. I don't know anything about the emachines, but two of my kids have had HP's for two years, and they are great. Netbooks aren't bad, but they are small and what you mentioned about no CD drive. I think it is a better investment to buy a notebook. Good luck!
