Deals on camera batteries?

Our old point-and-shoot died, so we just purchased a Lumix FH5 to take along on our upcoming WDW trip. I read that it is possible to purchase additional batteries for way less than ordering through retail box stores, but I don't know where to look and what to look for. Do we have to use the brand of battery recommended by Panasonic? Will we be damaging the camera by using a different or generic brand? And how do we get a good deal on the batteries?

TIA for any help!

Some say to only use the manufacturers batteries (for compatibility and safety reasons), some say 3rd party batteries are fine (and they sure do cost less). In the past few years some manufacturers have started adding chips and software to the cameras and batteries to prevent aftermarket batteries from working in the cameras. Here is an article that details that strategy:

It appears if we want to be sure the battery will absolutely work (now and after any firmware updates) then the manufacturers battery is the only choice. If we are willing to gamble to save some $$$ then some of the 3rd party batteries may work.

I play it safe and buy the manufacturers batteries, usually through an online retailer like Amazon or B&H.
