If/When DVC offers a contract extension assessment, will you pay to extend?

This is a multiple choice poll. Pick the answer that most applies to your situation.

I think it depends on what the current cost is for anything that is new at the time.Is it better to purchase for a small amount of years (15 ) or 3 times that much .
Now maybe by then there will be no new resorts but you never know.

Thats about $1.60 per point per year and your not renting or staying through CRO for them prices.

With Rumors of 3 being in contruction right now who would have thought that. I think SSR put a hugh chunck on money into the DVC pot, so things will grow

I'll be 105 by the time the extension runs out. My son would be 75, his son would be 50. Just seems silly to extend.

I'll be too old to enjoy the parks in 2042. :sad1: And I don't want to saddle DKids with the MF. No extension for me.

Other: I might pay $15 per point for an OKW extension if I can get comfortable that the resale value will increase by more than that amount.

My problem with it is what happens to the resale market. IF it means the value would hold or increase, I MIGHT do it, but if it appears the value stays the same, I see no real reason to extend, since I'll be well into my 90's at the end of the first contract.

The offer is supposedly only good until Feb '08, and we won't have any clue of the effect on the resale market for quite a while after that.

I can't imagine anyone buying the extension and then turning right around and selling! They'd have to make a LOT more than the going rate to recoup their investment in the extension, PLUS the 10-12% sales commission on the entire price.

While I will most likely expire before my two contracts (VWL/BWV), I would have some interest in extending, but not at anywhere near $15 per point. Maybe $3-$5 per point at most.

$15 a point for 15 years that don't start for another 35 years? How can I justify that to myself when I paid an average of $68 per point for 41 years that I could start using immediately? :confused3

I think that if they make this offer with only a few years left on the contract, that's another story. But to pay it now?

I guess I'd consider it if I were much younger or had several thousand dollars to burn. I can see where it could appeal to many but I'm not one of them.

If I'm still around in 2042, I will be lucky if I remember my own name, much less what the letters "DVC" stand for! :lmao:

Actually, DH and I bought into DVC the way we've bought houses or cars...........while they meet our needs, we take great pleasure in them; once they don't work for us (either mechanically or geographically), we sell them. :)
DH and I hope to enjoy our membership for many years to come, but if our travel becomes limited, or if any of our 3 kids aren't interested in having the responsibility of DVC, we'll begin selling their portion(s). :thumbsup2

We're going to ask DS what he thinks. He's 22, expecting his first child. He'll be the one stuck paying MF for any extension. Hard to make a 22 year old decide something so far in advance. But, it's up to him.

No interest at all.

In all likelihood, we won't even own our VWL in 2042 and since we never bought DVC as an "investment" in the first place, I'm not spending any more money on it in the hopes that I'll get more when I sell it. It's just a toy, we'll play with it until we tire of it and at that point whatever we get for it is gravy.

We would because we purchased DVC for our enjoyment now, and our childrens in the future. They know they will each inheret a certain amount of points for their own families down the road.

I think it will come down to age and if you can pass the contrcat on AND what was paid if they charge 25 a point. As far as resale, why would you extend it then sell? I doubt you can list an OKW contrcat for 25 more or even 15 more and you will still lose the commission.
I think this will come down to if you can use it period 25 or 15. 25 = 1.66 a point the current price if you took the 10 at SSR would be 1.95 a point if you get the 2006 points AKV is 1.92 a point with the discount.

I voted on Pixie Dust. I will be 82 in 2042.... unless Disney has the "DVC Assisted Living option"... LOL!

I answered "Other," because I would certainly pay for an extension of my VWL contract if it were offered at a low enough price point. $15 per point is not low enough, but the poll didn't cover that option, and "Less than $30" would be a misleading answer for me to give.

NO DEAL. I'll be 86 when our SSR contract expires and 89 for AKV. Not quite Pixie Dust, but I doubt I'll be going on Summit Plummet.

I voted "Other". We only own at SSR right now, so extending isn't really an option on Disney's radar right now. We would consider it IF we added on at resorts where this would be an option.

Also, being new DVC'ers, I want to see how the changes shake out and how our daughters would/would not use our contract. My husband and I will be well into our 80's when our contract expires as of right now (that sounds so SOON though!) Maybe I need to go move in with Peter Pan!

Do you think Disney is extending the contracts in order to be able keep the prices up on contracts that they takeover? It is fairly obvious that they can't interest people in my age bracket (I'll be 105) but if a lot of us start selling our contracts and Disney has to re-sell them to new buyers I am guessing that a contract that lasts 50 years (2057-2007)will be a lot easier for Disney to re-sell than much shorter contracts. Perhaps they are really just looking out for long term stability of prices. Anyone have any ideas. I wouldn't pay to extend my contract. I might pay if I could have a permanent deed that could be passed down to my heirs.
