I’m just doing a sanity check here…. Is it normal for copper creek cabins to have dead lizards and frogs in the fireplace? My kids are super bothered by it. We are from OH, so I’m just wondering if this is a normal acceptable Florida thing….
Our washer is also not working which is just kind of a bummer. Trying to stay positive but I feel a bit disappointed with the cabin….

Our 2 stays had nothing like that. We had small ants out by the hot tub, but that was it.

I'd call maintenance first thing and have them fix or swap out the washer and deal with the fireplace. We've had good luck with maintenance at other DVC resorts.

If I remember correctly, Paul and Amy Krieger found a lizard when they were filming video from a cabin for DVC Fan. The lizard was alive in their case and they let it outside. So it’s not entirely unheard of for that to happen. I guess that’s just a part of being in Florida.

It's normal to have lizards get in from time to time in Florida. However, the fireplace should be cleaned and the washer fixed. Call it in and have them fix it. Also, you may get some extra pixie dust for your troubles.

Totally normal here in Florida in heavily wooded and landscaped areas. I have, what feels like, 100,000 lizards in my yard. I actually wore a shoe to work last year and found a dead lizard in it at lunch time. I admit it was the most mortifying experience ever. The doctor I work with said they ‘dry up’ quickly 🤢. My point being it might not have been there as long as you’d think. Welcome to Florida!

I've dealt with the lizards but usually one at a time. But frogs?

Also are we talking the small gecko that is maybe a few inches long? Or something bigger

Whatttttt? I would be super upset by that. I mean I know it happens but maybe it should
Be cleaned before you got there

A. Not unusual.
B. HK should have cleaned out the FP as part of their routine. If not, then the room inspector should have seen it prior to releasing the room for occupancy.
C. Definitely call HK/Maintenance to have them remove said reptiles and to fix/replace your washer.
D. Hope things get better!

Am I the only one who was expecting pictures? LOL
Here are a few pics for your viewing pleasure. Lol. Doesn’t capture them all. The housekeeping manager was mortified but the guy who came to clean them out said he had a few cabins with this problems today. He implied the chimney caps were starting to wear down and get holes in them….
Took him about an hour to clean. All better now. Leaving tomorrow. Even with the charred creatures the cabins are beautiful… definitely a once in a lifetime stay for our family. Glad we got the chance.812769A8-C27E-41D9-B068-5C9FB0062B08.jpeg

Not a DVC resort, but we found this one when we walked into our room at All Star Sports the night before we checked into our DVC stay.

I had a frog jump on my head at 4 am while staying in one of the cabins back in May 2018. I'm a total tomboy so I just got up and asked my husband to remove whatever was caught in my hair. It honestly was funny. Management was mortified. We now have a copper frog ornament (had to for Copper Creek) we put every year on our Christmas tree to get a good laugh. We also bought the duty manager at WL one, too.

Dead anything in the FP is not cool though.

Not cool, but in mousekeeping's defense, those ARE sealed fireboxes, so you're not going to be cleaning inside the box (no access) as part of the daily cleaning. In fact, those boxes require some work to open up, so they may not have even noticed it. That's why someone else had to come clean it by disassembling the front glass face panel. I can see some critters getting through the screen up on the flue cap and then getting cooked inside the flue before dropping down. I've actually seen a dead bird in one before (not at Disney). Unpleasant for sure, but not entirely out of the ordinary.
