DelDOT has announced that the two southbound and two northbound EZ pass lanes will open today, just in time for the holiday weekend.

The EZ pass lanes might not ease bacjyo==== backups for EZ pass users unles they begin far back from the toll booths forcing people to choose their lane much much earlier.

Delaware's extended for quite some distance . . . problem used to be that there was no divider to prevent the cash customers from mucking things up. With the new high speed lanes, that ought to be fixed.

The Delaware Turnpike is the most expensive toll road on a per mile basis ($4 each way) in the United States, not including bridge or tunnel tolls. Because there is only one mainline toll plaza and tolls were removed from exit and entrance ramps. a lot of people get off at the exit before the toll plaza and back on after the toll plaza. Not sure how practical that is but I've read a lot of people do it.

It is somewhat easy to do; I lived up in Newark for several years and it was fairly easy to avoid the toll, with the exception of when U of D had a home game/graduation, etc. The stadium is not too far from the exit and to get off at that area to avoid the toll could get you into some serious back-ups. However, on the off-peak times, it is pretty easy to get off, and go to the next town to avoid the toll.

This is what we do to avoid paying the toll just to go to the waffle house in Elkton.
