De-blinging of MK Castle

I have to say, I am a little bummed to see that the castle will still under rehab during my trip (nov 28th - dec 4). I thought they would try and have that all done by Thanksgiving, but I guess not

Does anyone have an idea/guess what the "blocked off areas" will look like? I purposely got an ADR for Crystal Palace before park opening so my DBF could get a great castle shot without having tons of people in it..ugh! I don't know which is worse, tons of random people, or a crane

there was another thread with pictures of the castle and crane. During the day the crane is folded nicely and "put away" behind the fence. The fence did appear to be all around the castle though

It seems that it’s time to remove all those little extras that were added to the castle for the Happiest Celebration On Earth which officially ends on September 30th. I have been informed that after removing all the HCOE decorations, they will repaint the entire castle as well as use this time period to build that special Castle Bedchamber room into the penthouse. The long rehab will actually begin on September 10th when they will bring in a large crane that will live next to the castle for the next couple of months, surrounded by construction walls at the base somewhere between Sir Mickey’s and the Fairy Tale Gardens, where the walkway will also be closed off. The HCOE decorations will be removed between September 10th to 13th and painting is scheduled to take from September 19th until December 5th.

I am going to have to disagree with this... I spoke with a REP from WDW .The castle will be completed for their newest Dreams promo for Oct 1.

Oh yes it did-when they made it into a Birthday Cake! That was butt-ugly.

I agree! I was there for my honeymoon and had the Pepto Bismal pink in all the pictures.

I just hope the painting scaffolding isn't too obstructing. We'll be there 11/3-11/11 and have a before park opening ADR for CRT. We want a park pic with no one there, and are looking forward to the vew from inside the castle (even if we have to discretely ask if we can look out a window between two parties as one gets up and before another is seated). I just hope we won't get more pics of plywood than castle.

Same here... it was awful looking. The current version isn't bad, but it's not the original. Hopefully the Dreams promo is a step forward and not backward.

For those of you who don't know or haven't noticed, here's a mashup of some photos before and after to show you what they did.

Note all the gold around the towers, as well as the big mirror on the front. There are also lots of Disney characters in the gold that you can see close-up, but the point is that all the gold is coming off the castle.

I am hoping that they will be done according to schedule, we will be arriving on December 6th and last time we were there the castle was blocked off, I really wanted my girls to be able to walk through the castle this time!

The inside of the castle being blocked off has nothing to do with construction. The castle gets blocked off during the castle shows, and no one is allowed to walk though. However, during parade and in between some shows the castle breezeway is open to walk through.

I'm sure pictures will come out in press releases when it is done, but you can't just go up and see it. It's part of the Million Dreams promotion, they'll pick I think a family a day (?) to stay in it.
