Morning all

Needed a rant..........

I had to drag DD 5 to school this morning as she was sobbing her heart out about dressing up for comic relief.

Stupid school! instead of saying - "It's non-uniform and if you like you can dress up and wear big clothes (for the big one)"
The note YESTERDAY said wear something big. :confused3

So does that mean uniform and something big?, or non-uniform?

Anyway DD didn't want to dress up so wore her uniform and I gave her a big bowler hat to wear, for her something big!
On the drive to school she starts to see children not in unifrom and the tears start. :sad1:

Anyway turns out there were 8 children in her class in uniform who didn't want to dress up and a playground full of upset children.
I wish the school would be more clear about these issues - it may seem trivial to them but to a 5 year old.

I'm just hoping that she doesn't get children being spiteful all day and saying "why are you wearing your uniform?" roll on 3:15pm then I can stop worrying about her!

Once I forgot it was dress up day and went to school in my uniform when I was about 6/7.

I'm sure she'll be fine as lots of other kids didn't dress up.

Why don't you write to the head teacher to try and stop it happening again?

Sarah, I know from experience that horrible waiting for home time feeling but I'm sure she'll be fine they usually always are whilst us poor mums have sat there all day with our insides churning. Those school letters really are a pain sometimes!

Been there, done that & bought the T-shirt, and while I used to worry all day, the kids had forgotten that the majority of the class were in non-uniform by mid-morning (LOL). I'm sure she'll be fine and I hope she enjoys her day :)

The same thing happened to us last month as the kids were asked to wear something red for Chinese new year, and I sent DD in school in her uniform and with a red cardigan and kids were wearing jeans with red tops. DD was fine though and I am sure your DD will be too.

Same here, our school said wear something big. Dont think it is very safe for one but what do you do? The girls dont understand the concept of dressing for comedy and dont like at all what they have been asked to do.

We sent our youngest Victoria in some of Beths clothes that werent too bad but we did false cardboard ties 1970's width etc which as they made these thereselves they liked the idea.

only one hour left until I pick her up!
thanks for all the messages, I'm sure she'll tell me all about it in the car.

I've written a letter to the head, if they were just clearer about what the children were asked to do, all of this could have been avoided lol!

We had the same thing. The school issued a letter yesterday saying wear something red. The playground was full of upset kids - some were in uniform, some didnt have anything red, some forgot !! Then went to drop of DS at pre school - they were asked to wear pyjamas and take a sleeping bag - there was kids crying because they didnt want to wear pyjamas, one mum forgot and was getting shouted at. Some didn,t have sleeping bags so their kids were upset!!!!!!!!

If you think about the donation comic relief could have had from all the red garments that were bought for the day!!

Its is annoying and upsetting for a kid! I remember doing it when i was at school!!

Hope she enjoyed her day anyway!

I just wish the parents of the children at our school would read the letters. If we want them to know anything (e.g dressing up for book day) we have to send a letter out about 10 days beforehand, followed up by a reminder 2 days before, followed by a verbal reminder to the children the day before and STILL some say they weren't told!
One dad had a young teacher in tears this week by shouting at her, as despite the letters and verbal reminder AND notice in the classroom window he didn't 'know' that his daughter could dress up. He insisted the teacher should have come out and spoken to each parent individually - the letters weren't good enough.

Hi everyone

Thanks for all your messages, well she came out of school smiling and wearing her hat. :)
All the children had assembly dressed up and the head gave prizes to those children in the best "big clothes" and the prizes were £5.00 donations to Comic Relief! anyway FREYA GOT ONE! yeah! go my hat!!!! :cool1:
She said that Mrs Loft her classroom assistant helped her to put the hat on and held her hand into assembly.

DD school was the same, we got a letter 10 days prior, saying wear big clothes, big ears and red nose, with a line at the bottom saying more info to follow.

So DD i designed a white t shirt, i bought a big white shirt, and some fabric paint and pens, she designed a red circle which rapidly changed into mickey ears lol. Then i drew Minnie.

Lets say we did not receive a letter so was unsure about the going on's for that day.

DH gave her £3.90 incase she needed it for cakes etc, so she did not feel left out.

End of school, no money in pocket, so who knows anyones guess.:)

Not bothered it's for charity in the end.
