DD's Injury on Sledding Hill at School

The elementary school that my kids attended allows the kids to go sledding. DS ended up with a concussion from sledding one day, but I still allowed him and DD to sled at recess time. As far as injuries go, there are more accidents involving the other playground equipment. I don't think that the teacher was intentionally being mean to to your DD, she probably just misjudged the situation, kids "hop around on on foot" all the time over minor injuries. I hope your DD feels better soon!:sunny:

I'm a play ground aide. There are three of us for about 100 kids at each lunch. It's not easy because the accidents always happen when your attention is focused elsewhere. Even as a parent, it's hard to prevent accidents and injuries from happening, even with constant supervision.

First, I think it's incredible that they allow sledding. We don't go out if there is snow on the ground and we haven't been out for a few weeks.

Second, even if the aide had been standing there, your daughter still could have gotten hurt. Maybe she could have stopped the second group from coming so soon after but who knows? I'm sure the aide feels bad that your daughter was hurt.

What would you have done if you had been there? Gone to her after she was hurt? I would probably ask my child to move around a bit and at least try to walk some place to sit down. I don't think I could pick up any of my children to carry them anywhere. It's hard to say what happened and how your child acted.

You should check though, and see if your aides have first aide training. Also, we have two way radios and one is in the nurses office so we can call her and let her know if a child is hurt and coming in. As some one said, it's really hard to have an aide leave to walk a child to the nurse because it means less supervision for everyone else.

We get a lot of kids who say they have one pain or another. Sometimes it's hard to tell. Also, what was the aide doing on the black top? I would be upset if she was chatting but maybe she was helping someone else.

I am sorry your daughter was hurt and I hope she heals quickly.
