DD's recital dress rehearsal was today - and I noticed a lot of the songs were Disney themed - DD was a version of Beauty and the Beast, there was The Enchanted Tiki room and another song with Mickey in it - and that was just to name a few!

dd is the 2nd on the left (but she was in the front row)

Dance recital is always fun, congrats to your DD :)

Our recital theme is Disney (Walt's Dream) this year, there are usually many Disney songs especially for the younger set but I'm sure there will be many more this year.

My 14yo DD is doing ballet - Once Upon a Dream (Sleeping Beauty), Jazz - Breathless (she says they are tying this in by calling it a coaster ride) & Tap - Bad Girls - (Villians)

It will make the 6hrs go by a little quicker this year ;)

I'm jealous that yours is coming so quickly! My DDs recital isn't until the end of June and the theme is "through the ages" - pretty vague.

I miss dance recitals so much! (never thought I would say that), but I know our old studios recital is coming up soon and I was thinking today how much I miss it. I will actually go and watch the recital even though my girls aren;t there anymore. A lot of their freinds are still on the comp. teams, so I get to catch up with my old dance mom friends. I actually have two favorite songs that my girls danced to and one was a Disney song. They did ballet to "Be Our Guest" one year, I loved that dance!

My daughter did a pointe solo and chose her own music - she did it to Wishes -- she is a teacher and one of the younger children came to her and said, that her solo made her weepy because that is the song they play at the fireworks when it is time to go home from MK...how sweet!

Disney must be the theme this year!! :cheer2: DD has her recital at the end of June also, it is Disney & Classic Hits!!

Ballet=Lion King

My daughter would have loved to have seen your daughter's pointe solo! She's 15 and has only been dancing for three years, but she has been on pointe for two of those years. She dances competitively, but her studio does not compete in ballet or pointe. Her recital is coming up in a few weeks and she'll be seven numbers, including a pointe routine.

The pointe routine is called Fairies Gone Wild. The girls start out dancing to the Sugar Plum Fairy, then partway through the routine the music changes to a fast, upbeat song from Centerstage. The girls really "go wild", and it's a fun number to watch. :teeth:

Oh, and she is in love with her tutu. It's the first one she's ever had! :teeth:

DD's recital was two weeks ago and they did Cinderella for the ballet segment. It was beautiful. DD's little class (4 yr olds) were Cinderella's white horses and wore beautiful sparkly white costumes. They were so darn cute. I don't know what the music was bc it was mostly classical/instrumental for the ballet numbers except for one the older girls did at the ball. They all lined up across the stage with their arms entertwined, held up masks over their faces, and then Shania Twain's voice comes on and says "Let's go girls". It was I Feel Like a Woman. That was pretty cool.

Their dance school splits the performance up into three different sections, the ballet, the gymnastics portion, and then everything else after that including hip hop, jazz, tap, lyrical, etc. The ballet part has one theme and the other two have a different theme. The other theme was "Katrina Can't Stop the Beat". Her dance school had 5 feet of water during the storm. They ripped everything out, put in new sheetrock, bought new mats, etc and were back in business before most people could even say FEMA. She lost a LOT of students at the beginning but most of them found their way back before the year was over. So it really was an emotional performance. The very last number was the competition team doing a number on pointe called "The Rebirth". There wasn't a dry eye in the house. Another moving number was a lyrical dance they did to "Prayers of the Children". I balled during that one. It was very emotional.
