My daughters want a DDR(Digital Dance Revolution) for Christmas and I don't know anything about it. Can someone help me with buying reccomendations? We only have a nintendo game system, so I think that I need to consider buying a X-box or PS2. I don't know if one is better than the other. In additon to the dance pad, I also think you have to buy something like a game to play on the game system. I would appreciate any help if anyone knows about these things.

Thanks

You will need the game system, game, and a dance pad.

My son has an XBox but doesn't have the DDR. (But my DD would like one [DDR] to play when she's home from college.)

If you do a google - there are all types of dance pads to choose from.

My niece has the DDR for the X-box, the game and the pad are sold separately. Her mom bought one of the slightly cheaper priced pads for Christmas last year and I think it was about $20 but it works great. She plays this game all of the time! She brought it on vacation with us this summer and all of the kids (ages 12-15) had a blast "dancing". It's great exercise. I have seen the dance pads in Best Buy. We prefer the X-box over PS2, we have both but never buy new games for the PS2, it's not even hooked up anymore.

If you do get a non-brand named dance mat, don't get any Mad Catz products. They're crap!

I <3 DDR, lol, both the PS2 and Xbox versions are good! They make Disney DDR too!

OMG, we've got DDR in the game room at my job and it is the most ANNOYING thing in the world. All night long we hear that thing. My favorte is [sung in a screechy, annoying Asian voice] "I, I, I, I'm a little butterfly.." over and over and over.

But this is the big arcade unit, not the kind for the home.

Okay, I have a little bit of information to give, as my dear significant other has been asking for this thing for 16 months, it's a great weight loss tool by the way!

Nonetheless, from every thing that I have read, do not purchase a soft pad, because they all suck, when I say they all suck, I mean some of them do not allow you to wear shoes while playing them, some slide around on the floor, other's stop working after a week, maybe 2 months.

Your best bet is to get a metal pad. Do not purchase any metal pads with the number TX in front of them (these are widely sold on e-bay). There is the redoctane after burner, this works on ps2, x-box, game cube, and the best one on the market which is a colbalt flux. The Colbalt flux is currently only available on PS2 however they are working on getting an xbox version (we have 2 x-boxes). If you have a ps2 go for the colbalt, it's a large investment but it's the best pad on the market and it last! In addition to that, there are more games available on the PS2, not only can you get DDR games (Dance Dance Revolution 1-3) The 3rd one is actually being released on the 15th of this month, but you can also get In the Groove, which I've heard is much better than Dance Dance Revolution games.

Toys R us, amazon.com and walmart all have the DDR games, the 1st edition is $19.99 and the 2nd is $34.95 and the 3rd one is on pre-order for $38 (I ordered them just the other day) :cool1:

Now to the bad news....

The colbalt flux is $299 plus $50 shipping and handling
The Red Octane afterburner is $199 plus $50 shipping and handling
The Red Octane ignition (I think that's what it is called, is the best soft/hard sturdy reliable pad on the market) it is $99 and is available at gamestop.com

Thanks for all of the replies. This is exactly the type of information this clueless mother needs. Now I need to go shopping.

We bought a PS2 last winter and have only one game, DDR. We bought the Red Octane Ignition soft pad and got the system, game and pad at Best Buy. I love it and have had no problems with the pad, although we do not wear shoes on it. You should see DD6 on this thing! We bring it out almost every time people come over, and it's always a hit!

You can also get two pads and have dance competitions.

Good luck with your shopping.
