Hello,
I was just wanting thoughts on if the DDP is worth it for just two people or if we would come out cheaper going on our own without DDP???

I like the thought of not being limited in my choices with the DDP, but I also think me and my husband could pick decent entrees and split dessert most of the time and save a little. We usually don't even get appetizers when we go out...that is just an added bonus with DDP.

Anyway, what are some thoughts on this please. Thanks so much! :)

If you are using your table service credits for dinners, most of the time if you order an entree and a drink (and include tax and tip) you at least break even with the dining plan (assuming you are using your counter service and snack).

For instance:

Counter Service Meal: (Peco's Bills)
Chicken Wrap - served chilled with seasoned chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese tossed with Pecos house dressing, served with your choice of fries or carrots $7.59
Bottled Water -$2.00
Total = $10.20 (with tax)

Table Service Meal: (Tony's Town Square)
Eggplant Rotini - roulade of eggplant and ricotta, tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese $19.49
Soda, Milk, Nestea Iced Tea - $2.19
Total = $26.99 (with tax and tip)

Snack:
Bottle of water = $2.00

Total for 1 day's credits = $39.19
Dining Plan Cost = $38

Even with NO desserts at either counter service or table service, no appetizer and not trying to maximize anything you at least break even.

It's just my husband and I when we go to Disney and we've done the DDP once and paid OOP several times before we found out about DDP. Bottom line, we were way ahead with going with the DDP. We're not big eaters, we either split an appetizer or dessert and both get one entree, so it was a lot of food for us. What we ended up doing was taking our desserts to go and either eating them for breakfast (some of the counter services places have pastries that you can get for desserts) or eating them as snacks the next day.

We also split many of our counter services and added a snack and made that a meal. We did that many days for both breakfast and lunch.

In short, when we were paying OOP we would go off property a lot for our main meals and still pay quite a bit for dinner, usually $50 - $60 with tip and again that was only ordering 1 appetizer to split, 2 entrees, 2 drinks and no dessert. So what we find with the DDP is that we can stay on-property and eat for about the same price or even less, once I factored in 1 sit down meal and breakfast & lunch. Also, I liked the fact that I didn't have to worry about how much everything costs, since it was pre-paid.

I hope this helps out a little.

Julia

Dh and I just got back and we used the DDP for 9 day... all I can say is WONDERFUL...WONDERFUL..WONDERFUL !! before when we came and payed OOP we went off property alot, wasting precious time and didn't get the chance to sample the wonderful restaurants on property. We used our snack for breakfast, had an early lunch and were more then ready for an incredible dinner. Would I do it again... In a heart beat !!:cool1:

DH and I split at almost everyplace and it was more than enough food. That allowed us to eat 3 meals a day and still have stuff leftover. Because we were eating 3 good meals a day, plus some snacks, it really is a fantastic deal. You'd be hardpressed to spend less once you factor in tax and tip on everything.

Just another thought if you think it'll be too much food... splitting things is a great way to stretch those credits and not overeat.

My wife and I spent 5 days on the DDP. We spent 1 day at the MK, 2 at Epcot and 1 each at AK and MGM. Granted you can eat at Disney for less than $80/ day for a couple, but it is not that enjoyable. In Epcot, $20 may get you lunch for 2, but nothing special a chicken salad and a regular coke. The Shawarma Platters at Tangierine Cafe were great, with a drink and a small desert, the total was just about $40 or 1/2 the daily price for the DPP for 2 add in dinner at the Biergarten along with its show and you save about $20.

When on vacation, I like to try new things. My kids hated our trips across the country because I would stop at small diners rather than MacDonalds or BK. Had the best Green Chili in a shack in New Mexico on the OLD ROUTE 66. It was fun getting dishes I had never had before and trying them out without worrying about the cost if I did not like them (BTW, I liked them all).

Don't be afraid to eat out side the Parks, Wolfgang Puck, Spoodles, etc. are excellent alternatives, esp. on if you visit AK which closes at 5pm.

JMHO yet when considering if the DDP is right for you, it does not matter if it is 2 or 20 people. We had the DDP for 9 on our recent trip (happily planned to pay for it yet ended up with the free promotion) Next time we go, we will definitely be getting the DDP again, for 3 of us.
It all depends on what and how you like to eat. I would choose the places you want to eat and then check out the menu prices on allears.net.
I personally would get the DDP even if we "broke even" dollarwise. A big plus with the DDP for us is the fact that it is paid for before we go-not having to tally up money for meals each day while there just makes it so much more carefree. Read the menu, eat a wonderful meal and then with just a signature on a slip we are off and running. If there was something on the menu that was not on the DDP? We ordered it and paid for it. It's vacation!Again, JMHO.
