DDP when there is free dining?

Hey Guys,

Just wondering, I am planning a trip to the world in Jan 2012 and I understand that during this time of year there is the possibility of a free dining promotion.

That said, during this promotion, can you still purchase the Deluxe Dining Plan even though the base dining plan is free?

The reason I ask, and I apologize if this has already been covered in another thread, is that I am planning on making ADR for CRT and Fantasmic and a few others and the DDP seems like the way to go.

In the past when free dining has been offered, you've been able to upgrade from the offered plan to the one of your choice. Last time, if you booked a value, you got the QSDP, while deluxes got the DDP. I don't remember which category the moderates recieved.

You will have to pay just the difference between the cost of the plan that is being offered for free dining and the DxDDP.

Up to DxDP. You can't upgrade a free dining package to Premium or Platinum all-inclusive packages.

(Not that anyone's asking, but the question comes up often enough I figured I'd be proactive. )

OP said January had a POSSIBILITY of free dining since there was free dining offered this January. There are some times (June/July/spring break) where most would say don't even plan on a possibility of free dining since its not usually offered to the general public during those times.

ETA: there is anomalies like free dining over Memorial Day weekend, but not something anyone would ever expect.

So if I understand correctly, If we do go during this promotion (in Jan. 2012 IF offered), than at the time of booking I would pay the difference between the Value and Deluxe Dining Plan? Does that sound about right?

You would pay the difference between the plans' normal costs at the 45-day mark, or at the time you upgrade, if less than 45 days out.

If it is not being offered when you book, and it becomes available you can get the promotion by calling. We are staying at a value in Sept and are getting teh QSDP free and upgraded to the DDP (only paying the difference between the two). Even though we are going to many 2 credit TS meals, we didn't go DxDP because we want some days table service free, they do take up more time and we want as much park time as possible, we also find we always have counter service meals left over as some/many are so big we split them... Hope this helps

If I'm on the Deluxe DP can you use a table service meal "credit" at a quick service location, if you decide you want to change up your plans one day?

DxDP doesn't have table service or counter service credits. It has "meal credits", each of which can be used at TS or CS locations at your preference.
