DDP when renting DVC points

Please point me in the right direction if there is already a topic on this.

We are renting DVC points this year to stay at the AKL. We are going to add the DDP. I *thought* I read on the boards awhile back that DVC members can choose how many nights they want to add the DDP to their stay (for example, they can add it for only 7 nights out of a 9 night stay).

Is it also possible to add the deluxe plan for part of the trip and the regular DDP for a part of the trip?

We are interested in doing this to try some signature restaurants but can't afford the deluxe plan for the entire trip. I understand that the credits will only last for the days that you are paying for them and they can't be carried over to rest of the week.

I am fairly certain you must buy the DDP for the entire stay. The only exception would be if you had 2 separate reservations - then one could have one plan and the other the other plan.

You can still do the signature restuarants with the standard plan - you just have to allocate your credits. A signature restaurant will cost 2 credits, so that just means maybe one day you do a meal on your own or use quick service credits.

Note too that with the new system (which I believe is in effect now) you pay for the DDP when you add it, but you can still defer adding it until 48 hours before your check in day.

I was under the impression that the new system DOES allow the OP's scenario? The part about having to pay for the plan at the point it's added is correct now, though.

You will need to check with the person you are renting the reservation from, as it will be up to the owner if he wants to deal with you adding the DDP or not due to the new prepayment requirement.

Some owners will organize it, but some will not deal with it. Good luck to you..

To do what the OP wants will require more work on the owner's end to set-up the reservation in a format that will work (ie. it's really multiple reservations linked together). Additionally this would need to be done at the time of initial booking and that would also most likely mean the owner would want to book the DDP at the same time (again because of the additional effort).

Due to the changes I see less and less owner's being willing to even get involved with DDP because of these types of requests and the pre-pay bit.

My thoughts, too. They are making it more difficult to rent out points.
