Hi All,

First timer here from Australia, going to WDW in October.

I need some help as to if it is more cost effective for us to do DDP or OOP.

I havent made any bookings yet but would like to get:

*Hollywood and Vine character meal
*Chef Mickeys character meal
*Akershus character meal
*50's Primetime
*Maybe another character meal if i can get it

(Any suggestions for places with a nearly 3 year old would be great too)

If we get the DDP my DD will eat from our plates so it would be 3 people eating from two plates.

I am so confused

I bet your almost-3 yr old would like the Crystal Palace breakfast or lunch. It has Winnie the Pooh characters. :)

How many nights are you at WDW total?

All of your character meals are buffets, so your DD will eat for free with or without the DDP. At 50s Prime Time, she can either share from your plate or you can buy her a meal of her own. That would also be true with or without the DDP.

So, the pricing really comes down to the adult price. If your character meals are mostly dinners, you will save a little by doing the DDP. If you make them for breakfast, you'll save a little by paying OOP.

Here is a great thread for you to check prices:http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3108466

The first price is from 10/1-10/28 and the second price is from 10/29-10/31. They include taxes but NOT tip.

Hollywood and Vine dinner : $34.07/$37.27
Chef Mickey's dinner: $45.79/$50.05
Akershus dinner: $51.11/$51.11
50's Primetime: $22+3+6 (most expensive entree, soda and dessert) = $31.

Let's look at just those 4 days.
It would be $161-$169 for your TS meals (depending when you go): so let's split the difference at $165.
4 CS meals @15 each: $60.
1 snack @ $4 per day: $16 .
Refillable mug for $2 ($18/8): $8.

That gets you to a grand total of $165+$60+16+8 = $249
$249/4 = $62.25

The DDP is $60.64, so you save a whopping $1.60 per person per day on those 4 days.

Whether you save over your entire 8 days depends on the other restaurants you plan to eat at. Your CS meal, your snack and your mug is worth approximately $21 per day so you are looking to average $37 pre-tax per TS meal (entree, drink, dessert). If you can do that, you can break even. If you can't then the DDP will be a slightly expensive convenience. Another thing to consider is if you would usually eat dessert at Counter Service type restaurants. I personally don't think the CS desserts are worth the money or the calories. If you skip the desserts your CS meals would be worth $3.80 less per meal. When your margin is really slim, that $3.80 makes a difference.

I think above poster's amount for CS is a little low.

IF you plan on getting all entitlements at CS, you'll be "spending" on average $10 for entree, $3 for drink, and $4 for dessert. That's $17 before taxes and there are many places where you can spend considerably more. That's easily another $12 per person.

Considering I'm from Australia we don't tip a whole lot here how much should I be tipping?

Thanks for that! I dont want to offend anyone!

Also can you add the dining plan after or remove before full payment is required?

I think if we dont get the character meals that we want then it totally wont be worth it for us

I believe if you get the dining plan, everyone in you party has to get it, which means your 3 year old would have the childs plan. (3-9 yrs old).

Did check to see if they are offering free dining during your stay? You can always have that added if it is offered.

While this is true, OP said "nearly" 3 yr old, so she will not have a ticket or dining plan.

She said he was nearly three, that means under three so she does not pay for him.

Our TA said we could cancel the dining plan any time before the PIF date. We are also looking for character meals so if we don't get good ones, we will probably cancel and pay OOP for QS meals.

If you have a set schedule that you want, make sure that you book as early as you are allowed.
