DDP to go?

We've been discussing the DDP for our fall trip. One concern we have is children's meals. We have two pre-schoolers who invariably manage to fall asleep just as our ADR times come around. Waking them up just leads to cranky pre-schooler having to sit through an hour or two at a restaurant making everyone around them as miserable as they are.

Without the dining plan we let them sleep (watched by their grandparents who don't dine with us). We place an order for them to go, and it's brought to our table with the check. We've never had so much as a funny look it.

If we get the dining plan are we likely to get grief about trying to do this? We aren't trying to use children's credits for adult meals - but the DDP isn't a good fit for us if most of our children's evening meals will be paid OOP.

That happens to me too, and for some reason always on our way to LeCellier. I am halfway around the World Showcase and my daughter is asleep in the stroller. Both times, the waiter has been more than gracious about packing her something to eat from the children's menu. And both times, we were on DDP. They subtract the credit and I'm sure if you ordered two children's meals to go, they would just subtract the credits. Why would anyone just order the meals and then let them go to waste??

There shouldn't be a problem. Last year my DS(8) got a stomach bug while we were at WDW. We had ressies at Spoodles one night. We were on the DDP. DH decided to stay in the room with him while DS(14) and I went to dinner. When we ordered our food, I told the waitress that I needed one meal to go when we were ready to leave. I got DH his whole meal (appetizer, dinner and dessert) to go using the dining plan with no problem.

I always wondered about this. When people have asked here about taking meals as take-out from a TS resturaunt, they've always been told "No". But I don't see why, if you have reservations, you couldn't just get your food to go. I think the problem has come when people don't have reservations at a TS resturaunt, just walk up and don't understand why they can't get a meal to go. I think that as long as you have reservations, you should be OK to get it to go.

I always get meals to go from Kona but I am not on the DDP. There are usually a few folks standing there waiting for the orders to go. We do this every trip/

What a great idea. We enjoy outdoors in WDW not indoors which is why we do a lot of CS. So we can sit outside. Do you call ahead or just drop in and place it and wait? Are there extra charges like a service fee and tip added or just menu price? Thanks or the info.

We stay at the Poly so I just walk up to the podium and tell them I'd like to place an order to go. The CM takes my order and they give me a buzzer. When it is finished I'm buzzed and I pay. There is no extra charge for doing this. It is all boxed and bagged up and ready to go. When we want Kona's to enjoy in our room we do this. The wings and seafood chowder are favorites!

Thanks so much! DH says that the whole ordeal of sit down dining is such a waste of his life. He will love this idea.

We also used some counter service credits to purchase to-go meals from the food court at the resort. We kept them in the fridge in the room for late nights when we got back too late to find anything open. I'd think this would work well for having something available for the kids, too.
